"For some reason I just got violent," says Viens
Last night Nancy Grace profiled the horrific story of David and Dawn Viens of Lomita, California. Apparently in October of 2009, Dawn Viens went missing.
To make a long story short, David Viens admitted to killing Dawn and boiling her body in a 55-gallon drum for four days after which he disposed of her body in a grease pit at his restaurant. Believe it or not, but David was a chef. I hope you didn't eat at his restaurant. If you did, you may be running to the bathroom right now.
David said he took Dawn's skull to his mother's house and put in the attic but police have yet to find it.
"For some reason I just got violent," said David when talking about what he did.
Apparently, when Dawn disappeared, David didn't report her missing. It was her sister who did.
Police investigate the case for several months and finally got David's daughter to speak the truth -- that he confessed to her that he killed Dawn, though her body has never been found.
Upon finding out the news from his daughter, David drove off a cliff, but survived. He is currently attending his trial in a wheelchair and has decided not to testify. I think he made a good decision there.
David Viens has plead not guilty because he said he didn't kill Dawn. He says that she died by accident. Yeah, right.
He said she was arguing with him and drunk, so he bound her with tape so she wouldn't leave drunk, and went to bed, and when he awoke--she was dead. She choked on her own vomit according to David.
I don't think anyone will buy that ridiculous story--especially when you hear what he had told people prior to killing Dawn. He basically told people exactly what he was going to do and followed through with it.
Oops!
I tuned into to watch Steve Kardian as I always enjoy seeing him and found the case fascinating! Great to see you, Steve!!
You can bet this story will be on Dateline, 20/20 and 48 Hours in the months to come. You just can't dream this stuff up.
If anyone finds statements from David, please forward them to me. The ones I saw last night on Nancy Grace were fascinating to read! Very telling...
