 Brad Womack and Ellen DeGeneres
  by Eyes at 4:04 PM

I was shocked to hear that Brad Womack is coming back for another shot at The Bachelor! Were you? I do like to watch this show because I get to see real people in stressful situations. That's always lots of fun for me :)

Brad is honest when he says that he was a total commitment phobic on his first round of The Bachelor. He was also a player and he played himself into a lonely world rejecting two women at the end of the show. Has Brad accept that reality, too? I'm not so sure. Brad loves female attention and Brad also loves himself.

I think Brad is putting himself back out there because he does want a relationship and he thinks the added pressure will make it work. Frankly, ladies, I wouldn't invest in him. His chances at a successful relationship are slim at this point.

If Brad told us how he had changed, instead of telling us how he defended himself for three years, I'd have more hope, but he didn't. He just wants us to believe he changed, he believes he changes, but that doesn't equal real change. I'm just not buying it.

I think we will see a stressed Womack potentially propose to save his soul in public, but that likely won't equate to a successful Bachelor union, if you ask me. Then again, he is the type who might make the same mistake twice where his courage falters again. Wouldn't that be interesting to see? I don't predict behavior, but past behavior gives us a window into what the future could be.

BTW, if there is someone I love, it is Ellen. Didn't you love how frank she was with Womack? Go Ellen!

 JonBenet Ramsey's Brother Interviewed
  by Eyes at 3:41 PM

I would be fascinated to see Burke talk about this case. I have reviewed John and Patsy Ramsey in an interview they gave to 48 Hours in 2006 and I believe they know more than they have told us about this case. I also wrote about John Mark Karr when he came forward to confess to the crime in August 2006, and I stated publicly I did not believe him before he was even flown back to the U.S.

Confessing to a Crime You Didn't Commit
  by Eyes at 2:48 PM

Two men and handcuffed woman at desk in interrogation room

There is an interesting article on false confessions that was published in the NY Times in the last couple of weeks that is well worth reading. I think it is so important that people realize false confessions happen.

Most people will convict a person who admits to a crime without giving it much thought. Here are some interesting statistics of people who made false confessions from the article:
"Of the exonerated defendants in the Garrett study, 26 — more than half — were “mentally disabled,” under 18 at the time or both. Most were subjected to lengthy, high-pressure interrogations, and none had a lawyer present."
The article talks about important it is to videotape interrogations and I think this should become the gold standard. Right now only 10 states require it for specific cases -- such as death penalty cases. I believe they should be a requirement in our legal system in every state. Its the only way we can go back should we need to revisit things.

Have I seen a false confession on this blog? I believe I have. It's the case of Ryan Ferguson and Charles Erickson. While Ryan has always maintained his innocence, Charles Erickson confessed to the crime, which I do not believe he commit.

Thanks to Nancy for sharing this.

 Bishop Eddie Long
  by Eyes at 2:32 PM

I was watching Bishop Eddie Long speak today and I found it notable that he doesn't deny any allegations against him. He said in his speech before his congregation, "I'm not a perfect man, but this thing, I'm gonna fight."

That certainly piques my interest, to say the least, but this video alone is not enough for me to draw any conclusions on. Does he even say anything that could be a lie? I don't think he does.

Ronald Cummings Sentenced on Drug Charges
  by Eyes at 7:31 PM

Ronald Cummings was sentenced today on drug charges. He was given a 15 year sentence and $250,000 in fines. Ronald Cumming's daughter, Haleigh, disappeared in February from the trailer that he lived in with his then live-in girlfriend, Misty Croslin. Misty Croslin has also been arrested on drug charges and could be sentenced to six and 240 years.

I reviewed Ronald and Misty within days of Haleigh going missing in 2009, and I found both of their stories odd and fishy. I believe both know a lot more than they have said about Haleigh. I have written extensively on these two, so click on the labels below to see all of my thoughts.

I will never forget Ronald when he said within days of Haleigh's disappearance, "I'd give my life for my child's life back." To me that is a strong indication he knew at that point she was already dead.

I wonder if we will ever learn what happened to Haleigh.

Thanks, Karon, for following the story and keeping us updated with links! You are a tremendous help with this blog. Thank you, truly!

 Sarah Shourd: A spy?
  by Eyes at 12:40 PM

I have been asked if I believe Sarah Shourd when she says she is not a spy. I do. I do not believe she was a spy or involved in espionage. I would think a spy would have much better information and would not "accidentally" wander over to the country border they are spying on, don't you? It seems far-fetched.

Sarah also doesn't hit me as the type who would enjoy that type of work either. Her character is one who likes to live by the book, to follow rules and live within the expectations of society. Spies are quite the opposite, generally speaking.

 Ingrid Betancourt
  by Eyes at 12:05 PM

Former FARC hostage, French-Colombian Ingrid Betancourt smiles during a news conference amid a ceremony for the two-year anniversary of Operation Jaque , a Colombian military operation that freed 15 hostages including Betancourt, at a military school in Bogota July 2, 2010. REUTERS/John Vizcaino (COLOMBIA - Tags: POLITICS ANNIVERSARY CIVIL UNREST)

I watched Ingrid Betancourt on Oprah this week. She was running for the President of Columbia in 2002 when she went into an unsafe area controlled by leftist guerrillas against the advice of her security experts, and she was kidnapped and kept in a Colombian jungle for six years as a hostage. She is now doing a media tour to kick off the release of her book, "Even Silence Has an End."

While she went through an absolutely horrific ordeal that no one should ever have to endure, I was troubled by what the other hostages and her campaign running mate said about Betancourt. Clara Rojas, Betancourt's vice presidential running mate and campaign manager, said that Betancourt's book is full of "lies and spite".

In watching Betancourt's demeanor on Oprah and hearing her at one point say something to the effect she believed it was her right, and then abruptly stopping as she said it...clearly self-censoring herself, I tend to believe the people who have spoken out against Betancourt.

Furthermore, Betancourt's own husband has filed divorce citing infidelity and ungratefulness. Clearly, no one stands in support of Betancourt and with that, I am surprised Oprah gave her an hour show.

From Deutsche Welle, Betancourt's own words are quite telling:
I wasn't sensitive enough to understand their despair," she writes of the other hostages who did not have her celebrity status. "I saw myself as a symbol that could be useful for all of us. I did not understand that everyone needs to have a face.
Betancourt comes across as very selfish, self-centered and arrogant. You know what I say about arrogant people... I certainly don't care to read her book.

Theresa Parker's Body Discovered and ID'd
  by Eyes at 9:52 AM

travel11/021302 -- Sleeters Lake, Loudoun County, Virginia.

Theresa Parker disappeared in March of 2007 in the midst of a divorce from her husband, Sam, who was a LaFayette, Ga., police officer.

Yesterday police announced a farmer discovered her remains Monday 100 feet from the Chattooga River. While investigators do not know the cause of the death yet they have positively identified the remains are Theresa and the family is relieved that she has been found.

I wrote about Sam Parker on December 1, 2007 before he was arrested. Sam was arrested on February 4, 2008, and he was convicted of murdering his wife September 3, 2009. He was sentenced to life in prison plus five years.

 Pawn Stars
  by Eyes at 8:46 AM

My husband loves watching unique shows like American Choppers, and now, Pawn Stars. He loves the tumultuous relationships between the men. I can cope with watching it because I get to see human beings interact. I love human behavior.

Who knew?

With pawn stars, my favorite thing to do is guess what Rick will buy the piece for, and what others do in the negotiations--before they do it. I love reading their facial expressions and body language and making predictions on who will pay what. I love to call it before it plays out. My husband gets a kick out of it, too.

If you ever need a negotiator...

I think I love negotiating as much detecting deception. That would be my dream job-- a job that incorporated both. Yes, I secretly fantasize about negotiating deals for Donald Trump LOL just because he would have some great deals to negotiate!

 Police Comment on Horman Case
  by Eyes at 8:22 AM

CNN has an interesting article today on Kyron Horman case. Little Kyron, 8, went missing on June 4, 2010, from his school and hasn't been seen since.

Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton said "We have knowledge of things we wish we didn't." He goes on to say that there will be things that come out in this investigation that he think will surprise us. I can't imagine another surprise in this case. We've been surprised a lot already in this case from Terri and Kaine Horman splitting up to her being fingered as putting out a hit on Kaine's life, to Terri being banned from seeing her little daughter to the Horman's filing for divorce. The list goes on and on.

The sheriff says they have spent over $1 million dollars on the effort to find Kyron so far, and the case isn't "cold".

To read what I had to say about Terri Horman at her first press conference (thought she didn't speak) back in June, click here. Terri's body language was very revealing!

 Mr. Eyes for Lies
  by Eyes at 9:17 PM

I was watching Oprah last night (I can't believe it is her last season) and I saw John Travolta. I had a memory. When I met my husband 18 years ago, I paralleled him to two people: John Travolta and Geraldo Riviera. Today, I would add in Tom Hanks. Can you picture what he is like? You must remember 18 years ago, Geraldo wasn't into as many sensational stories has he has been the past decade.

 Eugene Arteta
  by Eyes at 9:47 AM

A man and his wife, Eugene and Barbara Arteta, were on their way home after visiting family on an Amtrak train last Thursday when Barbara disappeared on their return trip to Florida. Authorities later discovered Barbara's body alongside the tracks, deceased, in Jesup, Georgia. They are calling her death suspicious.

Read moreWhen I watch Eugene, his behaviors and emotions are quite perplexing for a husband who just lost his wife to odd circumstances. He definitely raises red flags for me. I believe he knows more than he is telling us.

When the video first starts, look at how he matter-of-fact Eugene talks about the police finding his wife's body. He has no problem stating or accepting it. You'd think he was talking about the police finding his stolen car, or some inane object. He has no emotions whatsoever.

He says, "The superintendent just got here and he told me they found my wife. They've got a picture of her and everything, and she's dead in Jesup, Georgia. They don't know anything yet..."

A reporter asks Eugene, "What do you think happened?" Eugene responds, "I have no idea what happened...I know I lost my baby," at which time he appears to cry, yet I don't see any tears. His cry does not seem genuine to me. His tone-of-voice also softens when he says I have no idea what happened. It's notable.

Eugene goes on in his questionable sob. He says, "I told these guys she got Parkinson's....move, move, find her. You know, she doesn't know what she's doing, you know, she can't control herself and I told them please find her..wah, wah, wah, ah! You know, I don't understand it."

If you notice Eugene turns on the crying, and then it stops suddenly. This is not how people cry genuinely.

Eugene shows frustration with the police above. He is more frustrated with them then concerned or saddened about the loss of his wife. It's rather chilling. They are merely trying to help him and he seems to look down on them. Why? I'd be curious if he always looked down on police, or if he views them negatively in this situation only? This would be telling.

He continues, "My poor wife, she had Parkinson, she had cancer, she had vertebrae cut, all these things and now she is dead. Why? Why is she dead? On an Amtrak train -- the first time she's roding [sic] on an Amtrak train. She was so happy and proud. I don't get it. "

He doesn't get it? That doesn't make sense. Why isn't he wondering about what happened, when he last saw her --how this could have happened? Why isn't he putting two and two together like most people are that there was likely foul play here?? I mean, Eugene, himself says she was so happy and proud, so she likely didn't do this on purpose.

Eugene continues his long ramble, "Now this guy tells me that there was a window open, you know, he's not him, no, sorry...there was a window open. I don't know what that means, because my wife can't climb if its...I don't know how high the window is...but she's not a climber."

Eugene's statements are interesting. First he says, "My wife can't climb if it's..." and he stops. He obviously was going to give a qualification, but stopped himself. Then he just says she is not a climber. Why is he self-censoring?

Eugene should know what his wife's limitations are to know what is and what is not possible for her, and what might involve foul play, but he says nothing about this, strangely. He seems to show no curiosity about what ultimately happened to his wife. It's a red flag. He just seems to want to accept it.

I also see that Eugene is troubled by his wife's health. That seems to be his recurring theme here...he tells us she couldn't control herself, and all the illness she had. Is that what you would think about if you your wife fell off a train? And possibly met with foul play? I would think most people would think about what went wrong first and foremost, but that is the least of what we hear from Eugene. It doesn't add up.

I would expect Eugene to say, "It would be impossible for her to climb out the train window unassisted. She couldn't do it. And she was happy, she wouldn't jump off a moving train on purpose. It doesn't add up! Someone had to do something to her when I was sleeping!" But he doesn't, sadly. Or if he believed she jumped on purpose, why doesn't he say it?

The reporter says, "Do you think she fell off a window or something?"

Eugene replies, "Sir, I have no id...I have...I wish I did...I...who...I don't know nothing...I don't know...I know she's dead because I gave them a picture...and they saw the picture"

Again, Eugene's answer flags me. A man who has no involvement would be quick to reiterate what he last knew, where they were, what was possible, what was not possible and what the potentials are. Eugene wants us to believe he knows nothing. I'm not buying it.

"Are you sure?" says the reporter with concern.

Notice how Eugene's "crying" suddenly stops, which is strongly indicative this is not a true cry. He says, "That's what he said. He said their sure because I gave them a picture, and a lot of my family was sending pictures to them to make sure, that you know, that ah...They say its her. Yeah."

Watch his emotions when he answers the question of where they were coming from, "Lorton, Virginia. No, no...that's where you get on the Auto train." His emotions are as if nothing is wrong whatsoever. It's perplexing if he is being honest with us.

I notice Eugene says, "The youngest daughter just had a baby." He doesn't say it is his daughter or her daughter. It's a form of distancing.

Also, Eugene talks about how his wife flew up to her daughter's when the baby was coming and then he met them later. How could she have done this as he said earlier "she doesn't know what she's doing, you know, she can't control herself control herself"? How could she fly alone? Is this possible? Did she fly with someone to assist her or is her condition not nearly as bad as he wants us to believe or he believed? I question this as I don't know if family or a health professional would be required to assist a person who is unable to "control" themselves.

When the reporter says, "You have a brand new grand baby," watch how Eugene first smiles, and then goes into another fake cry. He seems more happy with the new grand baby than the sadness of the loss of his wife. That's very notable. When he "cries" this time, he refers to the daughter as "our daughter". Interesting.

Eugene turns the crying on and off on cue, if you want my opinion.

Listen to Eugene talk about visiting the kids "...all over. We visited everybody". He has no sad, negative emotions whatsoever. It's very notable.

He says, "I don't get it. How did she end up outside of a train?" I almost get the feeling he wants us to believe she took her life because her illness was too much. She visited all her family, hence said goodbye? Yet he won't say a thing about what he thinks, which is suspicious to me. Why won't he share what he thinks happened??

Look at how he mocks the police when he says he asked them if they have cameras in the train. It's chilling. He says, "'No, we don't have cameras in the train because the privacy of the people. Privacy of the people? A person is missing. Isn't that more important when a person is missing...you know? I don't know."

Now he talks about her as a "missing person" again? Does he forget she is dead? Her death doesn't seem to concern him too much, if you ask me.

Eugene's emotions do not fit with the story he wants us to believe. What a tragic story. I feel for the family.

Sexual Assault Facts and Study of Honesty
  by Eyes at 11:57 AM

I think this is a great video on a number of levels. First, the statistics about rape on college campuses is staggering, and from my own experience, I believe these numbers are realistic. Most people don't realize the risks they take when going off to college. Young adults are in a new environment, exposed to alcohol at record levels, have freedom for the first time in their life, so it is not surprising boundaries are pushed and crossed sadly.

I can say that I remember my first college party, and I was so freaked out by the tension in the air that I left because I could feel the "rape" vibe. I kid you not. People were gyrating everywhere, guys were truly on the prowl for a good ending, the music was blaring, people were drinking past the point of good judgment and there was no where to turn if you needed help. I'll never forget those frat boy faces! I remember thinking that this is not a safe place to be, and I promptly left. While I attended a lot of parties in college after that, none of them made me feel like that one did and I can't articulate why. I just didn't feel safe. But what did I do? I walked home alone down a dark road to escape it because no one else saw what I saw. Not so wise, either, but thankfully, I was fine, and so were my friends (who had more experience than I did)!

Second, I think this video is fascinating because we get to see victims talk about their crime, albeit brief, but watch their expressions. Are they what you would expect to see from a victim?

Steve Kardian is absolutely correct that woman will justify why they should not report a rape. Most women who I knew in college who found themselves in bad situations blamed themselves, or diminished the scenario so they didn't have to deal with it, etc. They didn't want to accept the reality that they were raped. That they became a victim. It's not an easy thing to accept, and understandably so.

If you have a daughter going off to college this year, I would stress that you discuss this with her. She is in a high risk group for this problem, and education and knowledge are power.

Steve Kardian teaches a course on rape escape.

We get to see Joran van der Sloot talk to a Dutch reporter in this video for the first time since Stefany Flores' murder. It is intriguing as the reporter says.

The first thing I notice is how much more down to earth Joran is at first. He says he feels guilty for everything he said in the media since 2005, "yeah", but that flash of reality quickly disappears as Joran continues talking. His arrogance and ego swiftly take over -- he just can't resist himself.

Quote of the Day:

Egotism (or arrogance) is the anesthetic that dulls the pain of stupidity.

"I was doing a lot of things I shouldn't have been doing and mostly going out all the night and sleeping all the day," he continues with an arrogant smile.

We know immediately by his facial expressions and demeanor here that his sincerity is zip zero.

Read moreJoran still thinks he is smarter than everyone else, and he can dupe the world, but he does a horrible job of it, and everyone including their brother can see it in this interview. You don't need me to point it out.

Joran is smug. He smirks and smiles when it makes absolutely no sense. If he is feeling remorse and guilt as he says, his emotions, facial expressions and body language should support his speech, but instead they betray him.

Joran doesn't answer questions. He shrugs his shoulders when he makes statements that he wants us to believe he is confident about, when clearly he is not.

Joran is honest, however, when he says, "I have always been, uh, how do you call it, uh...um...impulsive. I've always been, eh, action right away, make a decision immediately and ah, and not think about what the consequences are."

Wow.

Joran said something truthful to get us to buy into his fabrications...a common trait of a liar. It's a clever method to make you question your stance, as most people believe we are all or nothing: Honest or a liar, and not a combination of the two. Its uncomfortable for us to hang in both realities that someone is honest and lies at the same time.

Watch Joran talk about how bad he feels for the Flores family. He couldn't be gloating anymore as he talks. It's sickening. He stumbles as he makes up his rhetoric.

He says, "I feel really that bad...uh... that her family had to lose a daughter, and it really... does hurt me (shoulder shrug), and i think about it all the time." His behavior, body language and emotions leak his true feelings. When he shrugs his shoulder here, its like he is thinking "What should I say, uh, I don't know...yeah, this..." Truly he does not speak from his heart or with any sincerity.

Joran says with laughter, "A web of problems, so I created all of them myself. Yeah. I have to deal with it now...deal with the consequences."

This statement is so telling. No innocent man locked up in prison for a murder or TWO that he didn't commit would say this, if they were being railroaded, as Joran so wishes we would believe--even if he did make poor choices. This sentence is all you need to see him say to see the truth.

Go back and read my first review of Joran on ABC after Natalee Holloway disappeared. Check out the comments, too. It's fascinating to read. A lot of people questioned me and were not sure that body language and words could betray a liar back then. That was long before Lie to Me. Now with all the developments in the Joran case, everyone can see Joran is a classic pathological liar and a psychopath. I wonder what my naysayers from back then would say today?

I wish they would have showed us this reality. It's hard to believe. Is it just good PR or the truth? I question this as I have no way to know for sure.

Thanks, Nancy, for the story link.

 Looking at Kiesha Closely
  by Eyes at 9:45 AM

Many of you have asked me to share my thoughts on Kiesha's photo.

She looks like a sad girl in this photo. She is not smiling genuinely. Her smile is forced. She looks tired, like she hasn't slept very well, and she does look pale.

She was clearly a sweet child. She also was a reserved child. She was not a loud child who commanded a lot of attention. I sure hope they find her and hold the people accountable who are responsible for whatever happened to her.

You can read my thoughts on her parents first press conference here.

 Kiesha Abraham's Killer
  by Eyes at 8:16 AM

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that police know who the killer is of little Kiesha Abrahams, but they are taking time to gather evidence in the case before an arrest, which is rumored to be imminent.

I don't think anyone is shocked by this report. I found the parents behavior very telling when they first spoke to the media shortly after Kiesha's disappearance. I never believed they have been forthright with us.

What is even more interesting in this news report is that it says the Kiesha's mum and step-father asked to be relocated after their daughter disappeared. They live in government housing, if I understand it correctly. While I knew they were in a hotel, I thought police relocated them.

Tell me what parent would leave a house where their daughter disappeared-- immediately after she disappeared? Anyone? An innocent grieving mother who believed her daughter wandered off or was snatched would likely hang on to that house (apartment) with all hope that just maybe her daughter was hiding and would wander home -- even if it is illogical as time passes -- it would still be an avenue of hope.

Most mothers would have nightmares if they left the house that their daughter would come home and find the house abandon, and that thought would torture them! And those thoughts would keep them at that house for months because to walk away is to essentially give up hope. Innocent parents don't give up hope months and even years later.

The fact that Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith wanted out there is another huge red flag, if you ask me.

Have you ever heard of the term Prosopagnosia? Just try saying that long word a few times. It is a medical term for people who have a neurological impairment. They can't recognizes faces--sometimes not even their own. It's commonly termed face blindness.

Can you imagine navigating life without this ability most of us take for granted? People with this condition report that they rely on other avenues to recognize people such as hairstyle, gait, and voice.

Time Magazine wrote an article about this in 2006 called "Do I know you?"

One Month Since Kiesha Abrahams Disappeared
  by Eyes at 9:14 AM

It's been a month since little Kiesha Abrahams was reported missing by her mother and step-dad. The police re-interviewed Kristi Abrahams and Robert Smith yesterday, though they have not been named suspects in this case. You can watch an update on the story here. It's interesting how Kristi doesn't talk to reporters. She has been more concerned with herself through this entire process and showed very little regard for her daughter, sadly. It doesn't bode well for little Kiesha.
