In Too Deep-Laura Hall Takes a Risk
  by Karon at 8:01 PM

On March 22, Eyes for Lies covered a 48 Hours segment about a young woman's grisly murder and mutilation. In 2005, Jennifer Cave, 21, was found murdered and dismembered in the apartment of Colton Pitonyak. Within days of the murder, Colton, ran off to Mexico with sometime girlfriend, Laura Hall, a university student.

Upon capture, Laura tells authorities that she was a victim of Colton's, too. She claims that she was afraid of Colton, and she says that she is innocent of any involvement in the crime.

In 2007, Laura Hall was convicted and sentenced by an Austin, Texas jury for hindering Colton's apprehension, and tampering with evidence, specifically, the mutilation of Jennifer Cave's body. However, Laura was released from prison for more than a year while her case was appealed, but in February by order of a judge, she was sent back to jail to wait for the hearing.

Colton was found guilty of murdering Jennifer in 2007, and he is now serving a 55-year sentence in prison.

Yesterday was the beginning of a new and risky episode to this already bizarre story. Laura decided to risk a new sentencing trial, which began Tuesday. One would wonder why she would risk having the possibility of more time added to her sentence, since she has already served 22 months of her five year sentence. She is now eligible for parole, if she accepted her original sentence.

Laura has not been silent during her time of freedom, and she has, unwisely, talked openly about her case. She has reportedly boasted to at least one individual about her part in the mutilation of Jennifer Cave. In addition, she has not shown any remorse for her part in this horrendous crime. The prosecutors are expected to introduce new witnesses and recorded conversations of Laura's while she was locked up in prison.

This was a very emotionally charged case, and the outcome may result in more time being added to Laura's sentence. Why would she run that risk?

 Chad Mitchell's Missing Wife: Iveta
  by Eyes at 3:30 PM

Missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle

Australian man Chad Mitchell and his wife, Iveta, had an argument in the early morning hours of May 3, 2010, at which point Chad says his wife walked out on him. He says he followed her outside and saw her walking down the street with her cigarettes. But sadly, Iveta has not been heard from or seen since, and there has been no activities on her accounts since she was last seen.

Click here to watch the interview with Chad on Australia's 60 Minutes.

Australia's 60 Minutes (similar to the American show) featured the story on June 20, 2010. When I watch Chad in the early part of the segment, I immediately notice how he passes out flyers without making much eye contact. You would think if he was searching for someone who may have seen his wife, he would be watching their responses--looking for clues, but he doesn't. He looks more at his flyer than he does the people he is asking. It's notable to me.

(*My read more code is not working and I cannot figure out why, if someone is able to assist me, I would be appreciative).

Read moreWhen Chad first sits down with the interviewer, I notice his mouth agape. He appears almost like a deer in headlights. You would think a man who fears his wife met with foul play would be on a mission to find her, not sitting there without anything to say. Chad waits for the reporter to ask him questions throughout the interview. He never volunteers anything, sadly, in hopes of finding his wife.

The reporter asks Chad, "Did you murder your wife?" and Chad replies, "No." When he says this, notice he shows some tension in his body's response, almost a bit of a temper, if you ask me.

The reporter continues, "Did you harm her in any way?" Watch when Chad responds, he responds by squinting his eyes. It's a sign of anger. He appears to restrain himself, if you will. Chad could be angry if he is innocent or guilty. While it doesn't clue us in to deception, it does tell us this subject makes him angry should he deny so later.

When the reporter asks Chad, "Why should we believe you [that you didn't harm your wife]?" Chad's answer is not good. He doesn't say because I am innocent, because you are looking at the wrong guy. Instead he tells us that if he did it, he would have come forward. It's utter nonsense, frankly.

When Chad is asked to walk us through the events the last time he was with his wife, if you notice, Chad doesn't do it. Instead, he talks generally about their problems. It's notable.

Chad finishes the reporters sentence when the reporter repeats back that Chad told Iveta to "f-off". Chad says, "...she got up and walked out the front door." Listen to the tone Chad uses when he says this. It is soft and not confident in any way. Instead of showing true anger at himself for letting this happen, he sits there staring back at the reporter. You can almost feel him thinking, "Do you believe me?" There is something about his demeanor that is off.

Chad has a false start when he says, "She knows how much I love the kids and I wouldn't leave them, and she knows..kne..she knows that if something is wrong, I will be there for them all the time, as well."

Why is he having a hard time keeping his tense correct? Why would he even think of "knew" as in past tense? That's a huge red flag.

When the reporter asks Chad who put the wedding ring on his doorstep, Chad's answer is really weak. He says that he doesn't know. You would think he would say whoever is responsible for the foul play in my wife's disappearance!! He should say it with strength and conviction. Instead, he says, "I hoped it was her, letting us know that she is alright." That's flat out absurd.

The reporter immediately questions Chad about the rings and says if they came from her, why don't they have finger prints on them? Chad has no answer. Then he changes his answer and says, "Obviously she didn't put them there then."

If Chad is innocent, he shouldn't be waffling and "hoping" she left them. It's absurd! It would only make sense if he was deluding himself, if you ask me. An innocent man would say that this is concrete proof there was foul play, but Chad doesn't. This is huge!! His lack of concern here about "this proof" is alarming. An innocent person would stand strong on this. They wouldn't "hope" it was their wife leaving them a message, for Pete's sake. Missing emotions are as powerful as those expressed, its just few people take notice of them.

Chad eventually gets up and says he can't do the interview anymore. I think he feels cornered into a hole that he couldn't escape, so he disrupts the interview.

What is fascinating is when Chad returns to the interview, he doesn't say how upset and worried he is for Iveta. Instead he talks about how hurt he was that he had to recall all the interviews he endured. This is clearly not about Iveta. This is all about Chad.

But what is by far the most interesting part in this interview is when the reporter says what do you think has happened to her, and Chad says, "The worst. Someone's done something to her and she can't come home. The reporter says, "Someone's killed her. That's what you truly believe." At this point, we see real grief on the part of Chad, but is it grief for himself? He says, "Feeling like that now, yes."

When the reporter says that if you didn't do it, then we have to believe that a killer pounced her on the very night that you had an argument. Watch Chad's response, "Possibly, yeah."

Possibly?

If he didn't do anything, he should have no doubt about it. Possibly is a hedge word, and shows a total lack of conviction for what he is saying. Chad doesn't want to commit to anything, for good reason. Chad, in my eyes, know a lot more than he is telling us.

911 Call from Horman Home Saturday
  by Eyes at 2:00 PM

Cell phone dialing 911

Many people are wondering what sparked the divorce proceedings and restraining order from Kaine. I read today at OregonLive.com, that a 911 call came from the Horman home at 5:46 PM this past Saturday regarding "threats".

In Kaine's petition for the divorce, he put "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.

I wonder if things came to a head Saturday night.

 Kaine Horman Files for Divorce
  by Eyes at 9:49 AM

Bride and groom figurines standing on two separated slices of wedding cake

News is out today that Kaine Horman has filed for divorce from Kyron Horman's step-mom, Terri Moulton Horman, yesterday. According to the AOL report, Terri's dad is staying with her to offer support, but her daughter is not at the house with her, but is at another location.

These are all foreboding signs that everyone has reason to doubt Terri Horman's story.

According to People Magazine, Kaine Horman moved out in the last two days, and Terri's father says there is a "50/50" chance she will get arrested. Police have interviewed Terri for long stretches and have inspected her truck twice.

Kyron Horman disappeared on June 4, 2010, after Terri Horman says she took a photo of him in front of his science fair and said goodbye to him in the hallway. Police have asked Terri to take two lie detector tests, though the results have not been made public. They also passed out a flyer with Terri's photo on it and a photo of her truck to help jog people's memories.

Michael Jackson: After Life on 20/20
  by Eyes at 10:30 PM

Michael Jackson at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in New York June 23, 2010

I watched ABC's 20/20 tonight and found one element the most fascinating in the discussions about Michael Jackson's life. I never knew that Michael Jackson settled with the family of one of his accusers for over $20 Million dollars, though now when I look for it, I see it became public knowledge years ago. Yes, it is obvious, I am not into pop stars or rock stars or much Hollywood. What can I say?

Who on earth would settle with someone for $20 Million dollars if they were innocent? I mean, let's put it this way, for the average man, would pay someone $20,000 to shut up, if you were wrongly accused of molesting someone when you didn't?

I think that speaks volumes.

Kyron's Bio Parents Hit the Media Today
  by Eyes at 10:04 AM

Kyron Horman's biological parents, Desiree Young and Kaine Horman, did the media rounds today hitting all the networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX). They answered questions by the media about his disappearance on June 4, 2010. This is the first time Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, has spoken.

I do not see any hot spots in these videos or things that clue me in anything substantial, unfortunately. I was surprised to see Kaine say that his wife, Terri, is working passionately to bring Kyron home, like the rest of the family, at which point, in one of the interviews, Desiree, nodded her head in agreement and says yes. I don't quite know what to make of it. It could have meaning, or they could have been asked to keep pressure off of Terri in the media, because they don't talk or deny that she has been looked at as a person of interest. So, at this point, I can't put anything into it.

Part 2: Anita van der Sloot Speaks Out
  by Eyes at 5:43 PM

 Ben Roethlisberger's Accuser
  by Eyes at 9:32 AM

RAPE COUNSELOR WITH FEMALE PATIENT 20 TO 30 YO
Unrelated photo of rape counselor advising a victim

When I watch the 20-year old college student talk about what happened the night she claims that she was raped by Ben Roethlisberger, I find it very strange how she remembers a fair amount of detail up until the moment she gets to the actual rape. It's one thing to struggle to say the details, or to have a hard time with it, but I don't see any of that with this victim. She is very matter-of-fact through the entire conversation.

Read moreShe says:
We were taking shots and one of his body guards came and like...like didn't grab my arm, but like, was like, 'hey come here' and grabbed my arm, took me to this back, like, door, like this hallway. Um, he, um, took me back there and I was like, okay, and I like, really weird, how he did it. He was like 'hey come here' and I was ok.

I didn't know what he was doing. It was really weird, but at the same time, I like ooohkay. I don't...I don't even know why I went. It was stupid, but went back there and he had me sit at this, um, stool, and then 30 seconds later Ben comes back there, his **** is already out of his pants, and I was like, no this is not right. Like, I don't agree with this. I got up and I went to like the first door that I saw, which happened to be a bathroom, and um, he followed me in and shut the door. That's when he proceeded to have sex with me, and the whole time I said no, we shouldn't be doing this, um, and he got up and left, and um, I walked out, and that's when we, when my friends walked up to me.
After the victim tells her story, the investigator asked her what position she was in when she was raped, and very strangely she doesn't know. How can she not know that basic fact? That's a red flag. If she was confused about other details, I might understand, but she seems to have a clear memory up until the critical point.

I wonder: If you can't remember the position in which you were raped, how could you be sure you were then raped?

Interestingly, the Pittsburg-Tribune Review writes that in an interview that occurred the night of the alleged rape, the "...accuser initially told Milledgeville police that she wasn't raped, according to the case file. But in an audio taped interview with Milledgeville Officer Jason Lopez shortly after the encounter, she claimed in a raspy, slurred voice that the quarterback raped her while she squatted on a toilet."

One time she remembers being raped on the toilet (I can't imagine) and in a later interview she can't? This causes me concern.

How could she forget being raped on a toilet? Is that even possible to be raped on a toilet?

I believe someone could be traumatized and things could become foggy, but it would be consistently foggy, not only when talking about specific details. The woman didn't hit me as shy or timid, either, which might account for getting brief where it matters most.

Interestingly enough, Ben Roethlisberger admitted to having sexual contact with the accuser. From the NYPost.com, "Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger reportedly told police he did have sexual contact with a woman accusing him of sexual assault, but it stopped short of full intercourse, the night of the Milledgeville, Ga., incident.

The Post-Gazette, however, reports of conversations with the police that are quite different from what we hear in the video above. It's from an audio recording I have yet to find.

She said that she and Mr. Roethlisberger went into the restroom, a cramped space with a single commode.

"I was like, 'Well, I need to go to the bathroom, let's go to the bathroom.' So I went to the bathroom," she said.

"He was like, 'OK, well, let's have sex.' And I was like, 'Um, [unintelligible] a good idea.'... And he said, 'No, it's really OK, I have a lot of people here. It's OK.' He said, 'Um, it's really OK.' And I said, "I really don't think it's OK.' And he said, 'No, it is.' "

"And he just, like, started trying to have sex with me. So he had sex with me. I feel like it was three seconds, but I was drunk so I don't really know."

I am struck by several things in this version above, if it is truly from her. Does she take him to the bathroom with her? This is a very different account from the video we've seen where she says he followed her into the bathroom uninvited. Second, when someone is violated, it usually seems like an eternity, and yet she says it was like three seconds? That's another huge red flag for me.

According to the Post-Gazette, that the prosecutor did not take the case because of insufficient DNA. They also write, "A hospital examination of the woman found a superficial laceration, bruising and slight bleeding in the genital area, but a doctor could not say whether they were evidence of an assault or sexual activity."

Based on the facts of this case, and the behavior of the accuser, I think we can obviously say that something happened between Roethlisberger and her, that there was a sexual encounter, but I have serious concerns if she is being honest about the actual rape. Clearly, the woman is holding things back, and can't remember facts. Some have suggested this is Rape Trauma Syndrome. Clearly, a rape expert needs to be called in to see if this accusers behavior fits within this syndrome. That's about all I can say at this time...

 The Psychopath and Brain Matter
  by Eyes at 9:00 AM

Technician analyzing CAT scans

Here is an interesting research study from Germany that studied the brain matter of psychopaths versus non-psychopaths.

The summary says:
This is the first study to show that psychopathy is associated with a decrease in gray matter in both frontal and temporal brain regions, in particular in the right superior temporal gyrus, supporting the hypothesis that a disturbed frontotemporal network is critically involved in the pathogenesis of psychopathy.
Of course, there is lots of research out there, but I have seen several studies over the years that talk about different brain structures of psychopaths.

Here is another fascinating study from BBC that talks about how psychopaths brains are different. In this article they talk about emotion recognition and the differences noted in the psychopathic brain. Fascinating stuff. As I always say, we are in the stone ages of understanding the brain, if you ask me.

If this is true, how can one not have sympathy for the mothers whose children kill?

Anita van der Sloot is the mother of Joran van der Sloot, a young man believed to have killed Stepany Flores and Natalee Holloway. She speaks out in her first interview here. As a mother, I don't think there could be any greater pain in life than to know you have a murderer for a son. My heart goes out to his victims first and foremost, but it also goes out to her, too. I see her as a victim, too. I hope in someway she can find it in her heart to love Joran despite his sickness.

Dear Kyron,

I am so soooooo sorry that this has happened. I am sorry that I was not there to protect you. I will never be able to forgive myself for being so many hours away when you needed me the most. I pray that you come back to me because I am afraid that I can’t live without you. I miss you every second of every day. I would give my life for yours, I just want you back safe. You must come back to us. We have so many things that we have planned this summer that you are going to love. Quinn loves you so much and wants you home too. All of the family is here and wants you to know just how much they miss you. Mayson is terribly sad without his best friend to play with and wants you home soon.

When you come home I will show you all of the things that everyone did for you, just to find you. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people that don’t know you and yet they pray for you every night. They know how much I miss you and need you and they just want to bring you home to me. There are so many wonderful people working on this case and they are going to find you soon.

I would give anything to run my fingers through your short hair again. I miss having you to hug anytime I want. Nighttime is always hard for me. I miss you so much and want you back here so that I can protect you from all of the horrible things in this world. I just can’t believe that you aren’t still with us. Your life has been really great and I know that it is [not] done yet. A long time ago you saved my life and now I am going to do the same for you. Our lives will never be the same after this.

I love you very much!

Anita van der Sloot: Changes Her Mind
  by Eyes at 9:02 AM

Joran Van der Sloot (L) is escorted by police officers on an airplane in Santiago June 4, 2010. Van der Sloot, who was arrested twice over the disappearance of a U.S. student in Aruba in 2005, has been expelled from Chile and will be handed out to Peruvian authorities where he is a prime suspect in a new murder probe, according to local media reports. REUTERS/Danny Alveal (CHILE - Tags: CRIME LAW POLITICS)

ABC News is now reporting that Joran van der Sloot's mom, Anita, gave an interview to the De Telegraaf and has apparently changed her stance on believing what Joran is capable of. ABC's news article is titled,"Joran van der Sloot's Mom Says He 'Could Have Done Something' to Peruvian Woman.'"

Read moreWhen I translate the Dutch paper into English with Google, it reads, "My son is sick in the head." According to the article, Anita broke her long silence in an interview with the Associated Press, and said she can't rule out that Joran "slain" Stephany Flores. Shortly before Stephany's death, Anita said that she spoke to Joran and he sounded paranoid. "He felt monitored and reviewed".

It is fascinating to read that Anita said that Joran believed he was responsible for his dad's early death. Why would he ever feel that unless he put his dad under undue stress?!

ABC quoted Anita as saying about Natalee Holloway, "I believed Joran. Despite his many lies. I felt that he didn't have anything to do with the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in 2005. He had left her on the beach. I still believe that."

Anita goes on, "After he was arrested for Natalee's disappearance, he was traumatized," the paper quoted her as saying, "We made a big mistake then. We sent him to the Netherlands to study. He should have gone to a closed clinic, he needed psychological help even back then. He wasn't getting any rest, he was being persecuted."

She said, "He lied so much, that we became desperate. He said to me too, 'Mom, I sometimes don't know any more if something is a lie or the truth. Joran is sick in his head, but he didn't want any help."

The saddest thing I saw was in ABC's article. They wrote on behalf of Anita, "And she said she thinks it is time to 'let Joran go.'"

No matter what I child did, I get sad when a parent no longer stands beside their child. I am not saying that she should support what he has done, agree with it nor approve of it -- that would be wrong. It's okay to acknowledge the nightmare, but she can still love him, even in his sickness. There is no other love as special as a parent's love, and if Anita pulls away from Joran, she is another cold heart, if you ask me.

You can read more on ABC's website here, or you can translate De Telegraaf for yourself.

Thanks, Karon, for the update!

Multnomah County Sheriff on Horman Case
  by Eyes at 6:26 PM

Video of Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Jason Gates
speaking about the Kyron Horman case

Today the Multnomah County Sheriff's Capt. Jason Gates spoke out to the media about updates on the Kyron Horman case. He talked about a flyer/questionnaire that is being passed around to the students, teachers, faculty and staff of Skyline Elementary School which asks questions about Terri Horman and Kyron Horman on June 4, 2010. Law enforcement is hoping the flyer can jog people's memories. To see more about the flyer, click here.

Unfortunately, I do not analyze law enforcement or attorneys, because I respect the job they do and need to do, and I don't see anything positive coming from my assessments. I hope you understand.

To see my thoughts on the Horman's earlier press conference a week after Kyron Horman went missing, click here.

Thanks, Marie, for the video link.

Police Pass Out Flyer on Kyron and Terri
  by Eyes at 3:32 PM

Hands of a Businessman

Police aren't saying if Terri Horman is a person of interest, but they are passing out a flyer in hopes of getting more information from people who were at the Skyline Elementary school on June 4, 2010. The flyer shows photos of Terri and Kyron Horman as well as the vehicle Terri was driving that day.

To see the questionnaire, click here. You can read more about these developments at Oregon Live.

People magazine (Report: Stepmom Investigated in Missing Oregon Boy) is saying that the Williamette Weekly reports that Terri has inconsistencies in what she says she did the day Kyron went missing.

Things are starting to heat up, as I suspected, sadly. Terri Horman really alerted me with her body language that something is not right in this case when she appeared in her first press conference a week after Kyron went missing. To read my thoughts, click here.

 Melody Granadillo, Joran's Ex-girlfriend Speaks
  by Eyes at 9:57 AM

ABC 20/20 video with Melody Granadillo and Chris Cuomo

ABC 20/20 tonight will show an interview with Melody Granadillo, Joran van der Sloot's ex-girlfriend from Aruba. You can see a snippet of it here. It's clear by this interview that Melody still has a soft spot for Joran. She appears to be a very kind, soft-hearted individual. When the two were together, there is little doubt that Joran called the shots.

Read moreInterestingly, Melody may never have been in danger with Joran, because psychopaths, even serial killers, often deem people "important" in their life, and these people they never seem to touch. It's an odd phenomenon. Don't get me wrong, I would never say you are safe with a psychopath, but most of them do have an odd history when you look at them.

Perhaps these "deemed-important-people" walk gingerly around these killers, and subconsciously know to never upset them. I don't know. It would be interesting to study the personalities of those who were involved with psychopaths, who escaped their fury. What does a psychopath use to deem someone important? Joran still seemed to cling to Melody up until the end.

Think of BTK--aka Dennis Rader. He was married with children all of those years and never touched his wife or kids. Other serial killers, I think it was the Iceman, cried over someone he loved. I can't remember if it was his mother who died when he was in prison or if he was falsely told his wife was dead or dying. Forgive me. Whatever it was, I remember being awestruck at how he had deemed someone of significance to him, because he was such a cold, callous man!

ABC 20/20 is also reporting this morning that Joran van der Sloot's mom communicated with ABC and has stated she believes her son, Joran, is not a murderer. It's not surprising, is it?

It surprises me that people can't understand a parent's denial. I can hear the logic from a distance. "I raised my son! I've known him his whole life. I know him better than anyone and he would not kill anyone. He could not kill anyone. They must have the wrong person. I am his mom and I know him the best!" Tell them that their child lies, and I can hear them reason back, "Who hasn't lied? Who has raised a child that doesn't lie?! Give me a break."

 Aaron Vargas: Hero or Vigilante?
  by Karon at 9:25 AM

On the evening of February 8, 2009, a distraught young man, Aaron Vargas, 32, drove to the trailer of Darrell McNeill, 63, and shot and killed him in front of his terrified wife. Aaron Vargas, only weeks away from his wedding, had just learned that he wasn't the only one that Darrell had molested. The knowledge shocked and angered Aaron, and in a drunken angry state, he arrived at Darrell's with a loaded revolver in his pocket. After a short dispute between the two men, Aaron shot and killed Darrell.

Read moreThe people of Fort Bragg, California were stunned and surprised at the killing of Darrell until the truth started coming out. Several men came forward to say they had been sexually molested by the man, also. The town began to rally around Aaron and called him a hero.

In May, ABC's 20 20 did a story on Aaron. Aaron spoke for the first time to Chris Cuomo. He revealed that he had been molested by Darrell since he was 11 years old. He told Chris that he didn't go there with the purpose of killing Darrell, but he was trying to warn him to stay away from himself and his family. Aaron said Darrell had began to come around his baby daughter and was showing too much interest in her, and Aaron feared Darrell would start molesting his daughter, too. He also said that fear for his child and the need to put a stop to Darrell's hold over him, which had driven him to a breaking point.

Aaron plead no contest to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in April. On June 16, 2010, in front of a packed courtroom, Judge Ronald Brown sentenced Aaron to 9 years out of a possible 10 year maximum sentence. The Vargas family was upset. They had hoped for probation, and they plan to appeal.

Darell's sister, Mindy Galliani said after the sentencing, "It's clear that the justice system still doesn't have an understanding of childhood sexual abuse."Judge Brown said "I believe the defendant intended to kill and intended him to suffer," and that Vargas' actions "were consistent with an intentional killing." The judge said he could not overlook the use of violence to solve problems.

What do you think? Do you think the sentence is too severe or do you think the sentence should have been longer?

Kyron Horman Case: Focus on Step-mother
  by Eyes at 8:55 PM

Kyron Horman, photo taken June 4, 2010

Prime Writer News Network
has released an article an hour ago stating that the focus for little Kyron Horman has shifted to his step-mother, Terri Moulton Horman, who was last seen with Kyron. They report that they are getting their news from the Williamette Week, which I suspect is a local Oregon paper.

I have had two "offline" updates on the case as well that something is brewing with Terri, but I don't want to share the details I have heard as I don't want to jeopardize what law enforcement is trying to achieve.

Sadly, when I saw Terri Moulton Horman speak out at the press conference last week, my alarm bells were blaring on high. It doesn't look good for little Kyron, sadly.

 Abigail Sunderland's Dream: Her Dad's?
  by Karon at 2:04 PM

Laurence Sunderland on the Joy Behar Show

Abigail Sunderland, 16, had her dream to sail around the world alone end on June 14, 2010, when she was rescued from the turbulent waters of the southern Indian Ocean. Her communications were knocked out when the mast of her sailboat was smashed by a large wave. A massive international effort was organized and after 20 hours, Abby was finally saved by a French fishing boat. She was 2,000 miles west of Perth, Australia, where she set off her emergency beacons.

Read moreAbby, seemingly oblivious to the massive international effort to find her, says she will attempt to complete the around the world sail again. Last year, Abby's brother Zac, who was 17 years old, held the unofficial title of completing the sail. However, in May, Jessica Watson, 16, completed the around the world sail and became the unofficial record holder.

Abby's failure brought about intense criticism of Abby's dad, Laurence Sunderland, amidst reports of a proposed reality show deal with a filmmaker named Ted Calorosa. The reality show, according to Ted, was to center around Abby's voyage.

Sunderland admits that a deal was in the works, however, the deal dissolved with claims by Calorosa that Sunderland was pushing his daughter to sail in spite of a poorly outfitted boat, and he further claims that Sunderland was pushing Abby to please the sponsors of the reality show.

Sunderland countered that Calorosa has a personal vendetta against him. He claims that Calorosa backed out of the deal because he wasn't going make enough money with it.

Sunderland says that he wanted to make an inspirational show based on Abby and Zac. He claims that Calorosa wanted to take the show in an unethical direction painting him as an irresponsible parent, who was inept at sailing.

Eyes for Lies was asked to analyze some videos for Celebitchy. After she watched Calorosa, she realized that "the person who started this whole reality push was not Sunderland, ironically, according to Calorosa himself, so how can Calorosa be claiming this is the only reason Sunderland was pushing his daughter to sail around the world? That makes no sense. I mean if Sunderland was going to push his daughter to be famous on reality TV show, you'd think he would look for someone more talented than a photography director and go after the TV industry himself. It doesn't make sense," says Eyes.

Calorosa says to Joy Behar, “While back in November of 2009, we started developing the show. Ah, I contacted Laurence Sunderland, my brother worked on the Zac’s campaign, her brother’s campaign and I asked him if he would be interested and just to give ya….just so everyone’s clear, I’m not a realty producer. I’m a director of photography. This is the first unscripted thing I have ever done. So I contacted Laurence and I said would you be interested in this, and I pitched it to some of my friends. I pitched it to a friend of mine at Reveille Productions, and he, they went on to sell it to a network, and I basically just started shooting footage.”

You can watch Laurence Sunderland on Larry King Live here.

Eyes for Lies said, "Frankly, I suspect they had a falling apart and neither one of them is being completely honest with us. There is more to this story than either one of them is saying--at least on TV."

 Deception, Denial and Delusion
  by Eyes at 11:44 AM

Dollar bill paper airplane flying down the highway

We started an interesting conversation with Cindy Anthony on deception versus denial yesterday. How can we tell when a person is being deceptive versus when they are in denial? As I thought about it, I also wondered how to differentiate delusions in all of this (outside of psychosis)?

Denial, defined by the FreeDictionary.com, is medically defined as "a primitive–ego defense–mechanism by which a person unconsciously negates the existence of a ...stress-producing reality in his environment." I've seen other places add "in the presence of overwhelming evidence to the contrary".

Delusion, defined by the Free Dictionary.com, is defined as "a belief held in the face of evidence to the contrary, that is resistant to all reason."

I feel I have a good understanding of these, but I am not able to verbalize it so I thought it would be fun to see if we as a group can narrow these down and create a list of how to determine if someone is each of these things. What differentiates each of these? What are unique attributes to each of them?

George and Cindy Anthony on GMA Today
  by Eyes at 9:15 AM

Exclusive (video): George and Cindy Anthony Speak on
Anniversary of Caylee's Disappearance

It's been two years today since Caylee Anthony disappeared and her parents marked the anniversary by going on Good Morning America and speaking. It was gut wrenching for me, because I can only imagine the pain they must experience knowing their granddaughter will never return, and their daughter is now facing the death penalty for their granddaughter's murder. Cindy made a statement that they have now lived without Caylee as long as they lived with her.

Read moreI feel people have been unfair to the Anthonys and very harsh on them, because the Anthony have lashed out in their pain with sharpness, or they reverted to denial to cope -- Cindy more so than George. So many people believe the Anthonys are lying, and I couldn't disagree more.

The Anthonys have gone in and out of denial, and it now looks like they are in complete denial. I am not surprised in the slightest.

Denial is a coping mechanism that helps us deal with circumstances when emotionally we are unable. The Free Dictionary.com gives a medical definition: "A primitive–ego defense–mechanism by which a person unconsciously negates the existence of a ...stress-producing reality in his environment."

Many people confuse denial with lying, when the two are very different animals. Yes, sometimes people deny things consciously, and that is not denial. That is lying, but that is not what we are witnessing in Cindy Anthony.

While Cindy likely was not the perfect mother, I don't think we can blame her for what Casey did or for "raising Casey wrong" as so many people suggested. If you've never witnessed the wrath of a psychopath, you have no clue how incredible challenging they can be. You can never win when you compete with fairness and honesty with a psychopath. You can win if you lie with a psychopath. There is no winning, period. They will always make sure you lose. They are master, cunning manipulators that I believe are a result of a genetic flaw.

I believe Cindy loved little Caylee so much that Casey was jealous and ended Caylee's life because of it. Casey had been the center of her parents world up until Caylee arrived and Casey resented losing that spotlight. In all the videos we see, it is quite clear that Cindy is the one who cared and financed everything for Caylee and gave her the beginnings of normal childhood. There is no doubt it, the Anthonys doted on little Caylee and truly loved her, yet they wanted Casey to take responsibility of being Caylee's mom, which I suspect sparked a lot of fights and ultimately Casey to let it out on Caylee.

If Cindy Anthony were still "covering" for her daughter as many people have said, we would have never seen Casey write about them so cold and callously as she did in her jailhouse letters. Casey wrote about her mom:
Come to find out that she put a trademark on Caylee’s name months back, never told me, and even talked about doing the same with mine. This is the same time she publicly states that she plans on writing a book about this! B-E-T-R-A-Y-A-L!!! I’m so sick to my stomach even thinking about this. I’m the only person who has tried to protect Caylee throughout all of this, and it kills me!
Casey goes on to write:
I’ve officially lost my entire blood-related family in the blink of an eye, in the middle of mourning my daughters death, trying to exonerate myself, and figure out what steps to take in achieving these things, and I get [expletive] over by my entire family.
I believe Cindy absolutely put a trademark on her granddaughter's name, and perhaps Casey's, too, and it wasn't to profit! Casey knows this, but she is twisting things to get sympathy. Cindy likely did it because a company made little Caylee dolls and starting selling them in the heat of the search for Caylee's body, and this was the legal way to stop this from every happening again. Did Cindy ever talk about writing a book?

If Cindy was in on this with Casey, she would have never called the cops and been so honest when she made that 911 call -- talking about the car smelling like a dead body. It never, ever would have happened. Cindy would have coached Casey and hid the body and waited for someone else to discover that Caylee was missing, but that never happened. I am surprised people have such a hard time seeing this.

Tonya Craft Files $25 Million Lawsuit

Tonya Craft has filed a $25 million dollar lawsuit against her accusers! The lawsuit names 15 people and agencies.

I completely believed Tonya Craft when I saw her speak out to the media before and during her trial. I was happy she was acquitted, but she has a long way to go before she can get her name completely cleared. She has still not had her teacher's license reinstated and she is working on getting custody of her children, too. I feel for Tonya Craft and hope she gets justice.

Melissa Huckaby sentenced to life in prison
  by Karon at 6:19 PM

CNN Video: Melissa Huckaby Gets Life Sentence

Today former Sunday school teacher, Melissa Huckaby, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder and kidnapping of little Sandra Cantu, 8, of Tracy, California. Sandra Cantu was found in a suitcase and dumped in a drainage ditch on April 7, 2009. Huckaby escaped the death penalty by pleading guilty to the murder of Sandra on May 10th.

At her sentencing, Melissa Huckaby gave an emotional apology to the Cantu family, her own family, and her little girl, who was a playmate of Sandra's. Huckaby saying that she loved little Sandra, who was a sweet, loving little child.

Huckaby admitted to killing Sandra, and she assured Sandra's family that she didn't suffer. However, in spite of charges claiming Sandra was sexually molested, Huckaby denied molesting the child. Huckaby said that Sandra did not deserve having her life cut short, and she admitted that she alone was responsible for Sandra's death.

Huckaby said that saying sorry is not enough, but that is all she can do, and she says she will live with the guilt of what she had done for the rest of her life.

Eyes for Lies never got to see Melissa Huckaby speak before she was arrested, but did comment on Sandra Cantu's mother, Maria Chavez, here.

 Joran van der Sloot's Confession
  by Eyes at 12:58 PM

CNN: In Session Transcripts of van der Sloot's confession

Joran van der Sloot's confession has been released. If anyone sees a translated copy of this, please let me know. I'd be curious to see it in full.

On another note, Dateline NBC covered the Joran van der Sloot case on Friday night. They talked about how Natalee Holloway's mother's attorney, John Kelly, went to Aruba to get a the details of where Natalee's body was in May. That's when Beth Holloway handed Joran a down payment of $25,000 on his demands to get the information on the location of Natalee Holloway's body.

Kelly told Dateline that Joran told him he buried Natalee's body in the foundation of house being built at the time. He even pointed out an exact house. Joran also said that his dad helped him. The confession that Joran made about burying her body in the foundation of the house, however, turn out to be false, because when they investigated, the house was not under construction at that time. However, I do believe Joran's dad was involved in him helping cover up Natalee's body. I suspect that is the truth and here is an analysis as to why I believe this.

I also suspect Natalee was dumped off of a boat in the ocean and will never be found. It correlates to Joran's 2008 confession when he said the following [which was translated], "She'll never be found. Where exactly [she is], I don't even know myself."

Joran is a pathological liar, much like we see with Casey Anthony. He can lie to you while staring you straight in the face and not feel a pang of guilt doing so, which means he is unlikely to yield facial expression clues. However, he will still likely leak clues to his inconsistencies, if we listen to the facts of what he tells us. It's chilling, but usually liars like this leave clues to what the real truth is, if we listen close enough.

 William Walsh Confesses; Pleads Guilty
  by Eyes at 10:15 AM

Long Island teacher disappears after flat tire
WABC News, October 29, 2009

In October of 2008, a New York man, William (Bill) Walsh plead to the media for the safe return of his wife, Leah Walsh, who disappeared on her way to work. Her car was found on the side of the highway with a flat tire, but Leah was no where to be found. The media interviewed Bill shortly after his wife disappeared, and when I watched it, his interview was loaded with hot spots.

Read moreOn October 29, 2009, I wrote the following about this interview:
I can tell you that Bill's plea put my antenna on high. Absolutely nothing about his plea is logical. Nothing about his plea makes sense.

He not only talks nonsense--that she can have his car and everything--which is illogical if she just disappeared after getting a flat tire, but he pitches his voice up so high in what sounds like a fake attempt to show distress that it almost gets me nauseated.

Furthermore, in the second snippet of Bill talking, when the reporter asks a question of him, notice how as he thinks, his voice pitch goes back down to normal. The thinking caused him to forget to pitch his voice up. It's an incredible and notable point. When we are really wigged out, our voice pitch says consistent. It doesn't change this quickly.

Also, do you see any tears? If Bill is so upset, why aren't there tears?
I don't trust a word out of Bill's mouth, unfortunately, but the police are saying that Bill is cooperating.

I don't trust a word out of Bill's mouth, unfortunately, but the police are saying that Bill is cooperating.
On May 20, 2010, William (Bill) Walsh confessed (a second time, the first time he took it back-- search my archives for details), plead guilty to murder, tampering with evidence and weapon's charges. Thanks, CW, for sharing the news (otherwise I may have missed it)!

You can read more about the story here. Walsh will be sentenced on June 23, and faces 18 years to life.

This makes the 31st person (out of 32 total) I have accurately identified clues to deception in the news before the truth was known. Of course, there are many more than are waiting for the truth to be discovered. That puts my average at 96.9% accurate.

I wish Leah's family peace and resolve and I hope they can move forward now and put this all behind them and focus on the beautiful memories they have of Leah.

 Kyron Horman's Father Speaks Out
  by Eyes at 4:18 PM

KGW Video of the Horman Family at a Press Conference
Kyron Horman disappeared from school June 4, 2010 after his
mother dropped him off and helped him with his science project

Kyron Horman's father finally spoke out today. If you are not familiar with the story, I posted about it here earlier and explain the details of this case.

In the beginning of the video, when I watch Kyron's stepmother and father, I immediately noted a resignation about them. Perhaps it is the way they bow their heads and do not look at the camera. Or perhaps it is their slumped over shoulders. Why have they given up so soon on finding their son? This concerns me. Parents of missing children hope for months and years that just maybe they will find their missing child...and often never give up. I've never seen parents of missing children give up in the first week. Why are Terri and Kaine?

Read moreI can't help but wonder if there is some shame and that is why they bow there heads...

While Tony is down and concerned, he still shows us hope, though I can't articulate why I feel this. Desiree Young, Kyron's biological mother, also shows hope. There is a distinct difference in behavior between the two couples. Do you see it? I wish I could articulate it better.

As the interview progresses, look at the way that Terri buries her head into Desiree shoulder in the middle of Tony Young (the stepfather's) speech. It's as if she's almost wanting to hide or recluse when Tony speaks. You know when little kids get embarrassed, they do this behavior. Why does Terri want to hide? It's very notable.

When I look at Terri to discern her personality, I question if she is super shy, but I don't get a feeling she is. We know for a fact that she helps out at Kyron's school, which confirms she is not the reclusive type. Furthermore, when she walked out of the gym this week and avoided the media, her body language did not support she was a shy, reclusive run-away type of a woman. So what is causing her to want to recluse here? It's intense. Terri appears very needy, too, as she keeps gravitating to everyone around her.

At one point, it even looks like Terri she can't cope anymore. Her body language conveys the message of "I can't take it anymore" (around 1:22). She lifts her hand towards her chest. Watch her react when Tony says, "...the community as a whole has shown how much impact one little boy's smile can have on a community."

Also at the very beginning of the tape when Tony starts speaking, Terri turns her head away from Tony sharply--as if to get away from what he is saying.

Watch how Terri looks up at Desiree while she has her arms around Desiree-- right before Kaine speaks. Its very odd. It's like she is hanging on Desiree for support and approval. Its like she is trying to comfort herself here instead of Desiree. Isn't that odd? Notice how Desiree doesn't reciprocate the embrace?

When Kaine starts speaking, watch Terri rub her arm --a gesture to comfort herself. She does this a couple of times. Terri also takes deep breaths and is doing all she can just to stand there. Her arms are pressed tight on her body in a very closed off manner.

Both Terri and Kaine are exceptionally nervous. Watch Kaine's hands tremble as he holds the paper from which he reads. Why on earth would they be nervous? I could understand talking to the media will make anyone nervous, but the nervousness that both Terri and Kaine are feeling far exceeds what everyone else in this press conference are displaying. That is notable.
Kaine may be picking up on Terri's nerves. That is possible.

Kaine says, "Your memories and statements can help us find Kyron."

Memories?

That's an odd word choice. It's not common that memories and statements find missing children. Why would Kaine be thinking about "memories"? You would think that word would be the most removed from his thoughts right now -- consciously and subconsciously. I would expect him to use "remember" instead.

Yes, it is important for people to remember relevant information so why isn't he asking people to think back and recollect anything they can--that any and all details may have relevance, no matter how small they are. Why isn't he asking students, parents and teachers to try to recollect if there was any strangers outside the building, any strange cars--anything that might help solve this mystery! Neither parent suggest that people do a thing to help bring Kyron home. More sad to me is that neither of his parents, or biological parents spoke directly to Kyron, in case he was kidnapped and out there. Only his step-father did.

Kaine continues, "We will never be able to thank you enough for that help." Who would think about thanking people before your son is found? It's out of place. It doesn't make sense. It's the cart before the horse, frankly. Would you feel like thanking people when your child is still missing?? What is more important -- keeping the search going or thanking people?

At this point, all signs are pointing that fact that Terri likely knows something, maybe even Kaine, that they are not sharing... They have definitely raised my eyebrows... I wish I could ask them direct questions. That would give me an immediate answer. I am highly suspicious of Terri right now, that is for sure.

If more interviews surface, let me know.

------------
After I walked away from publishing this, I realized what is missing the most. It's anger. These parents (Terri and Kaine) should be outraged that their child was safe at school and the school did not protect him! I would expect the parents to be very outspoken about this, because if Kyron was abducted or was able to walk out of school without anyone seeing him -- that's a big concern for ALL parents and children alike. I would be so furious, you couldn't get me to contain it. I would be all over the news asking for answers from the school board. I wouldn't be thanking a damn soul!!

-----
Saturday, June 12 CLARIFICATION:

I need to clarify is that Terri's behaviors in this video are NOT CONSISTENT with what we currently know in the news right now, if this is the story she is representing. If we get more information at another point, it may justify her behavior. That is all I can say at this point. To me, at this time, her behaviors are notable red flags. I cannot say that she is lying per say, but her body language is flagging me.
