Rielle Hunter: Losing Touch with Reality?
  by Eyes at 1:45 PM

I was blown away by Oprah's interview with Rielle Hunter yesterday. It was the most surreal interview I have seen in the five and a half years I have been watching interviews. I do not say that lightly.

Rielle appears to have lost total touch with reality. The first thing I did after that interview is look up the definition of "delusional".

The Free Dictionary.com defines delusion as:
1. a.The act or process of deluding.
b. The state of being deluded.
2. A false belief or opinion: labored under the delusion that success was at hand.
3. Psychiatry A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence, especially as a symptom of mental illness...
I think the only thing I can say is that definition truly fits the behavior displayed by Rielle in yesterday's interview. Her behavior goes way beyond what I would even classify as a lie or deceptive. She seems to have convinced herself that what she was saying was the truth. The place where Rielle is at now is not only hard to watch, but causes me concern for her safety.

While I am no medical expert, I hope that Rielle gets the help that she needs soon. I apologize, but I don't think there is any purpose to try to dissect her utter and complete nonsense. It's pointless.

The lesson in this? When everyone you know tells you not to do something, its good to sit back and listen. They likely have good reason to be giving you this advice.

Lyle Herring Arrested for Wife's Murder
  by Eyes at 6:22 PM

I wrote about Lyle Herring back in April of last year after his wife went missing. Lyle's behavior was odd and notable, even for police investigators. Today they arrested him for his wife, Leslie's, murder. I just realized I never put this case on "Hot Cases"! I forgot. I wouldn't have remembered the case, but I saw it was a getting lots of hits on my blog--that's how I was alerted there was news.

KTLA.com reports:
Lyle S. Herring was arrested Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. after a 14-month-long investigation, police said...Herring has not been seen since February 8, 2009.
They don't mention that they found Leslie's body. Has anyone heard if they have?

 Preview of Oprah Today
  by Eyes at 1:52 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3I9Yp9-bNU

Don't forget to watch it today. It runs after the news on ABC most nights if you forgot to record it today!

Do you think Rielle Hunter is a homewrecker?

Oprah's statement about Rielle was fascinating. Oprah says, "She is a person who is guided by what she feels." Isn't that a nice way to say someone is guided by their emotions? People who are guided by emotions often find themselves in controversy, because they don't apply logic in their decision making process--they overrule it with their emotions.

Tonya Craft: Molester or Falsey Accused?

You can see the original interview with Tonya Craft here.

I do not see any signs of deception in this interview with Tonya. I'd like to see more--especially if Tonya testifies. If she does and you see it, please let me know ASAP.

This case scares me because it is a highly emotional topic for parents. The more emotional people get, the higher the likelihood their emotions will cloud their judgment and their ability to discern fact from fiction. The risk of emotional bias in this case is exceptional high. Due to this, her likelihood of a conviction is dramatically increased, and if that it the case, this case will be contested in courts for years to come.

Scott Kimball: Playing for another victim?
  by Eyes at 11:32 AM

Here is a chilling web-extra from CBS 48 Hours on Hannibal, aka Scott Kimball. Kimball uses his master manipulation skills to try to weaken Mary by using her emotions against her. He plays psychological games in an attempt to get control over her. It's as chilling as a harsh wind on a frigid winter's day in Alaska!

 Rielle Hunter on Oprah Tomorrow
  by Eyes at 9:33 AM

Set your DVRs for tomorrow's Oprah show. She interview's Rielle Hunter for the first time. In the preview which can be seen here, Oprah says, "Is it true no one in your life thinks this is a good idea for you to be talking to me?" Rielle displays those critical, squinty eyes in the preview several times!

I think Rielle's answers are going to be quite interesting!

Due to the fact that I can't get Oprah's show online, my review may be brief. If anyone wants to transcribe the show, or purchase a transcript, I will review all of the "interesting" parts! Just let me know.

The Biurny Peguero and William McCaffrey Story
  by Eyes at 9:30 AM

For those of you who did not watch the ABC 20/20 episode online or on TV last Friday, Biurny Peguero falsely accused William McCaffrey of rape. Even though she went to the hospital and had a rape test done to preserve any possible DNA and none was found, William was still sentenced to 20 years in prison on her emotional testimony, of which he served four years before he was set free.

Read moreBiurny eventually felt so much guilt that she found the church, confessed and eventually came clean. She is now serving time for her deception. She was sentenced to 1-3 years on multiple accounts of perjury. While what Biurny did was horrific, you have to give it to her for coming forward and having a conscience. What she did is unheard of.

I found the video clip I posted here fascinating because it was a great example of a low stakes scenario. The stakes of a once high situation are now gone, and with that, people become a lot harder to read. If you didn't know this was a low stake scenario and that McCaffrey was already out of prison and cleared, you might have judged William's smiles or behavior as deceptive. That would be a mistake. I wanted to show you the power of lie stake lies.

I suspect William, when he was interviewed, knew that ABC 20/20 knew he was innocent, so when they asked him about it, he couldn't help but smile, like he knew he was just repeating this for the sake of the camera. William was amazingly kind and forgiving considering all he had been through, if you watch the entire episode. He is an amazing man, though he hasn't always made good choices himself.

Many of you noticed the twitches in his face. I speculate that these twitches are connected to William's emotional memory of the pain he felt by being wrongly convicted. Sometimes when people hold back emotions they twitch like this. People can twitch, however, for many, many reasons and very few would be a hint to deception!

With Biurney, her deception came barreling through regardless of the low stakes, but this does not always happen, I can't stress that enough. We may have seen it this time because she wasn't invested in deceiving us as this story was about her confession.

When I heard Biurney say "He raped me", I was immediately on alert. She was as emotionless as a coffee mug on the kitchen table. The lack of emotions are equally as powerful as the presence of them and hence, they should never be discounted.

If you've been violated by a stranger like Biurney said she was, you don't fail to have an emotional memory. That was a huge clue to the truth here, and likely was at William's trial as well, but people are emotional creatures, and the idea of someone being raped can cause ill-will and bad feelings towards those in the cross-hairs, which likely resulted in William's guilty verdict. I see emotional biases rear up on my blog quite frequently, too. It's part of being human, just few people are aware that they have these biases and that they influence our ability to see the truth. They will absolutely fog us in, if we aren't aware of them.

At the end of this clip, we see Biurney talk about hearing the news that William was convicted and sentenced to twenty years. She doesn't seem pleased or happy. She lets out a deep sigh, a stress sigh, and she talks about how she started crying and wanted to be alone. I will bet many of you had a gut response here that something wasn't right, but perhaps you discounted it? Take that as a warning that your intuitive senses are important and should be acknowledged. You don't have to just believe them, but at the very minimum you should dig further to see what you can find! It's your intuitive sense showing you a red flag.

Remember, before you judge someone, be careful to assess the situation. Are there "high stakes" involved? If there aren't, be very, very cautious!

 The Tells of Body Language
  by Eyes at 8:51 AM

Grandmother with granddaughter

I was out the other day visiting a friend when I passed by a grandmother playing nearby with her grandchild. They were sitting very close. Grandma had her arm around the little girl and was intently focused on her granddaughter's interest. I hadn't noticed anything when I walked by them, but later as I sat and reflected upon what I saw, I said to my friend who knows the grandmother, "That grandmother isn't very close to her granddaughter . Did you notice she treated her like a China doll? Her body language was very stiff. A grandmother who is close to her grandchildren would treat them like her own children. There would be no tension. There would be no China doll treatment. Did you notice?"

My friend laughed and said, "That's interesting because the granddaughter isn't her daughter's child. It's her son's child, and you know, the in-laws just never feel as comfortable as they do with their own children's children. You made an interesting observation."

The daughter-in-law, the mother of the granddaughter, happened to be a few steps away, unbeknown to me.

It's amazing what you can surmise about people by just watching them interact.

 Tiffany Tehan Alive and Well
  by Eyes at 9:41 AM

Tiffany Tehan was found alive and well in Miami with Tres Hutcherson!! You can read the story here. Police have planned a press conference at 10:30 today, which will be streamed live over the web, if you want to check it out.

Tehan has now been in contact with her family. What was this woman thinking? Clearly, she wasn't using her better judgment. You have to feel sorry for David. My heart goes out to him. I'd be so mad, I wouldn't even be able to look at Tiffany.

This case is important because you must consider the evidence before you judge a smile. We had evidence that we couldn't dismiss--a video of Tehan with another man, that could explain why her husband wasn't potentially panicky anymore.

Fascinating story!!!

UPDATE 10:31 AM:
Tehan and Hutcherson were romantically involved.
She says she left voluntarily with the intent to start a new life!
She's got some esplain'n to do! Read more here.

 Tiffany Tehan's Husband Speaks
  by Eyes at 9:20 PM

David Tehan went on the Early Show with his father-in-law and a law enforcement today. It's a unique video because David grins and continually shows positive emotions until he is asked if he knew the man his wife was seen with on the video surveillance. At that time, his grin dissipates.

Read moreI am unable to draw anything from this video of David. It is possible that David was grinning because he was focused on his daughter and her actions as she is all he has right now. It also could be plausible that he could be grinning because he now believes his wife may have done something she is going to be held accountable for, and he doesn't believe from what he knows that his wife's life is in danger. That's just speculation, of course. He just doesn't seem to show much concern, which is notable, but by itself doesn't mean anything because he isn't contradicting himself in any way.

The correspondent on the Early Show does say to David , "You have understandably been too distraught to talk about it". It is plausible that David's emotions have changed from the fear of a random abduction to the potential that maybe his wife ran off with another man she knew and was involved with. It can't be ruled out. We'd need to talk to him more to know.

The body language between Tiffany Tehan and Tres Hutcherson was friendly. They are turned toward each other, and each are holding a cup -- mirroring each other's body language. There is no tension in them that is discernible from the footage shown in the video. They appear to be friends, if not more.

We just have to hope that Tres Hutcherson didn't decide to do something erratic last Saturday. That's the fear. His wife, who was questioned by reporters said Tres drained the family back account and believes he is with Tiffany, however, she said she didn't believe he would harm her.

 Casey Anthony's Friend, Maya Derkovic
  by Eyes at 10:24 AM

There is video of Casey Anthony's jailhouse friend talking about the Casey Anthony. Maya Derkovic speaks candidly with a reporter from WFTV.com.

It's important for me to stress that Maya Derkovic is not in a high stake scenario. That is, she has nothing to gain or lose by telling this story, so hence if she does lie, the clues to deception could be muted, if they are even visible at all.

It's not hard when we have no pressure to change facts. It's easy to say red when we mean blue, or whatever the topic is at hand. Embellishing stories has no consequences for us.

Read moreI can't stress enough how important high stakes are to the consideration of deception.

I've seen people in high stakes scenario leak out clues like a sieve. I've seen the same people, a couple of years later, talk about the same situation once the high stakes were gone, and not one single clue emerged in their continued lie. It was so intense once that I doubted my original beliefs until I went back to view the story being told under high stakes, where it was clearly undeniable what the truth was-- the person was lying.

With Derkovic, while I only watched the first 10 minutes, some of what she says is logical and supportive by what we've seen in this case-- that Casey Anthony was jealous of Caylee. I believe her here. Yet when she talks about the chloroform, she tells her stories in a roundabout way, without ever directly telling us what Casey said. She talks in present tense instead of past, which is odd for a memory. She further says "...like a wash rag" as if it just came to her, which does not support it came from a memory. Is Derkovic embellishing here? She raises my eyebrows, but I won't say with any certainty.

I have to say that I am gun-shy about reviewing low stakes lies after what I witnessed above!

Sadly, Derkovic confessed to strangling a 15-year old girl when she was part of a gang.

 Blog Loading Issues
  by Eyes at 9:46 PM

It has come to my attention that people are having a hard time loading my blog. I wonder if it was a CNN video (Joe Overstreet below) or the ABC 20/20 video. I have removed both below. I went ahead and removed more videos as well. It appears the problems were related to videos.

If this happens to you, please email me. I think there are issues from time-to-time and no one tells me. I don't realize it and lots of people are getting frustrated. I wonder if everyone was busy the same day and that is why no one commented LOL!

Please either jot down my email address in the right-hand column, or join my Facebook page or seek me out on Twitter and send me a tweet! I will get word that way. Otherwise, I am in the dark :)

Thanks!

 Joe Overstreet
  by Eyes at 1:20 PM

In this video, Joe Overstreet is clearly stressed, which results in the rapid blinking we see. You would think Overstreet would be angry, if he is being wrongly accused, but we do not see any anger. However, some people, when put under this type of stress if they are wrongly accused, could become overwhelmed and shut down, which could be happening with Overstreet, too. There simply isn't enough information from this video for me to make any determinations.

Somer Thompson Case on 20/20 Tonight
  by Eyes at 12:13 PM

LINK TO 20/20

There is also an interesting article, worth reading, at Jacksonville.com about Jared Harrell. A reporter reviewed newly released records in the case and found some interesting things. From the article:
The records show detectives first interviewed Harrell on Oct. 30 in Somer’s case. He allowed them to search the home and property, but they spotted nothing suspicious.

...Harrell’s mother, Annis Dailey, told police she was with him, apparently at the home, between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m., the records show. She said they left together, gassed up their vehicles, had dinner at a McDonald’s and split up about 5:30 p.m.
The article states that Somer was last seen at approximately 2:45 so that could leave a 45 minute window still, if the time is accurate. I wonder if police questioned Harrell on October 30, and documented that he was with his mother at that time?

One of the most interesting aspects of the newly released records are that Harrell suspects he may have been setup by his roommates on pornography after he was accused of theft. Records indicate, according to this article, that the roommate was interviewed and given a polygraph and his responses were "inexplicably deceptive". That's interesting.

While these are nothing conclusive, I am a firm believer than remaining open-minded until all the facts of this case come out is very important, if you want to find the truth. Once the truth reveals itself, the pieces of the puzzle should fit together and make sense.

Thanks to "CW" for sending me the article.

 Pat Brown's Speculation on Haleigh
  by Eyes at 10:16 AM

Being able to see the truth, one thing is very hard for me: listening to people speculate at what happened. I think it is because a lot of what people speculate about has no evidentuary support. Human behavior is evidence. People behave the way they do for a reason. We can never discount it, which a lot of people do when they speculate. So when cases start to break, I often steer clear because I go loopy listening to speculation that has no basis in reality. You cannot ignore basic facts.

I heard lots of stories about what might have happened to Haleigh Cummings and most don't even remotely interest me because they are so far off the charts. The idea that Ronald was totally uninvolved is ridiculous, and Pat Brown has offered the first plausible scenario that I have heard of what might have happened to Haleigh. I thought I would share it with you.

I saw a massive meteor last night
  by Eyes at 10:15 AM

LINK TO VIDEO OF METEOR

I had just crawled into bed and my husband turned off the light. As I laid back, a bright light streamed into my eyes. It didn't jar me at first as the full moon does this at certain times of the year, and I thought, "Hmmm... I don't remember seeing the moon, but maybe I missed it."

Read moreThen things happened quickly. I noticed that the light was moving at the same time my husband reacted. He jumped up and ran to our French doors. I sat up to get a better view. I saw a huge fireball go from blue to red to orange and then burn out. It was huge!

"Is it a huge firework?" I asked my hubby (which is not usual where we live). "No, I don't think so," he said. We both stood silent listening for a big bang, just in case. No noise ever came. I wondered if it was a plane crash. I have had this horrible fear my entire life, I will see one and I don't ever want to see one!

"Did you see it?" he asked.

"Yes, I did. It was a large fireball as full as a full moon! Did you?"

"No, I didn't see it. It just lit up the entire room. That's what caught my eye."

I explained to him what I saw. I then remembered seeing a meteor that huge in the news once and thought that is what it might have been.

I
just went to check the news, and low and behold, others saw it too!! It happened at around 10:02 PM. It was a meteor. Wow!!

Cool stuff. I'm glad it didn't land on anyone!! It would have been devastating!! Some people reported hearing a sonic boom, too. I was shaking after I realized what it was...Scary!

An expert talks about it below...

 Noura Jackson: Matricide?
  by Eyes at 9:19 AM

48 Hours Mystery ran the story of Jennifer Jackson, who was murdered in her home as she slept in 2005. The show was titled "My Mother's Murder". Her only child, Noura Jackson, was eventually tried and convicted of her murder.

The case takes many twists and turns, and definitely makes people question what the truth is. Noura is a baby-faced teenager at the time of the murder, whose DNA was not found at the scene, even though she lived with her mother. Some say it was sloppy police work. There was hair found in Jennifer's hands that could be a match to Jennifer, but excluded Noura in preliminary tests. No conclusive tests were ran. It surely must point to someone involved in the murder. I am surprised it hasn't been tested and more surprised that Noura hasn't insisted it be tested and run into any DNA database available, as it should be.

Read moreYet when we watch Noura and listen to what she has to say, she is does one thing that concerns me the most. She says everyone else is lying, but her. What are the odds? It doesn't bode well for Noura.

If we listen to Noura's story of events, she wants us to believe in one-in-a-million odds, not just once, but over and over and over again. It is precisely this, to me, that gives away Noura's secrets. I can see unusual odds once, twice, maybe even three times, but after that, it becomes ridiculous.

When I watched 48 Hours, these are some of things that I found noteworthy about Noura:
  1. In the 911 call, the operator asks her, did you see what happened, and Noura says, "No, no. I just got home." Her voice sounds whiny to me here. There doesn't seem to be any fear, terror or urgency, whatsoever, which is a red flag to me. Feelings of terror, urgency or fear don't turn on and off like a light switch.

  2. The 911 operator asks Noura, "Is she breathing?" Noura says, "No, no. She's not breathing, she's not breathing, she's not breathing." Noura sounds like she is whining to me. Her voice just trails off into a soft pitch. It's notable.

  3. More than that, if she knew her mom wasn't breathing, how did she check? Did she check for her mom's pulse? If so, did she have blood on her? Was any blood ever found on Noura? If she touched her mom in anyway, we would expect to find it. If she spent any time in the room with her mother, if the blood was everywhere, we would have expected to see it on Noura, or on her shoes, or in footprints she left behind. Was there any of this?

  4. When Noura says, "I didn't do this, I loved my mom", she shakes her head no. She does this head shake side-to-side (like she is saying no) frequently. I personally can't put much weight into this as a subconscious leak because she does this frequently when she talks.

  5. What are the odds that person who broke in--got into a locked garage first? Noura told a neighbor that someone broke in. That makes me curious, how did Noura enter the house when she found her mom? Through the front door or the garage? If she didn't go into the garage, how did she know someone broke in?

  6. Noura says, "Their painting me, like, gosh, I don't know....a monster, a wild-child, a raving drug addict." Why doesn't she say "murderer", if that's what she feels they are calling her? Why can't she say it? Is this a form of distancing? If you were being wrongly accused of murder, wouldn't you say it? Wouldn't you also say, "They've got the wrong person!", "We need to find the real killer!" Why isn't Noura? It's notable.

  7. Why did Noura tell several different stories about how she got the cut on her hand? She told one friend said she cut it on a beer bottle, she told another that she got it while trying to get her cat out of the garage, and another friend that it was a burn from cooking mac and cheese. Noura, of course, when questioned on 48 Hours says she told police what really happened. She essentially denies that these people are being honest. What are the odds that all these people would lie?

  8. Why did Noura change into long-sleeves when she was seen at the Walgreens wearing a tank top and skirt just an hour before? Was that outfit at Walgreens different than what she was wearing with her friends that evening at the party she went to? If so, why did she change two or three times in one evening? I wonder if the police tried to find the outfit her friends said she had on at the party that night or did that go missing?

  9. Why would Noura forget to tell the police she stopped at Walgreens? What are the odds, if she was totally innocent?

  10. Why did she go to a Walgreens at 4:00 a.m., and ask for a paper towel to wipe a cut, if she told the police and other people the cut occurred the night before? What are the odds?

  11. Why did Noura have no phone calls between 1:00 - 3:00 when Jennifer is thought to be murdered and make calls from the house when she said she was not there? What are the odds a friend of Noura would testify that she called after 1:00 a.m. from her home phone?

  12. How come Noura was quick to respond that no one was shot. How did she know that her mother wasn't shot? Wouldn't most people say they have no clue? What are the odds?

  13. Why did Noura tell her neighbor that "My mom, my mom...someone's breaking into my house?" Why present tense, if she had already supposedly been in the house and knew her mom was "not breathing"?

  14. Why would Noura, if she believed an intruder was in the house, go inside before the neighbor who was holding the gun? What are the odds? This shows absolutely no fear, which we would expect if someone else killed her mother and she didn't know who it was. What are the odds someone who saw and knew what Noura did would have no fear?

  15. Noura says, "Well I know I don't really know what happened. I wasn't there." Why would she say the world "really"? Is she hedging on us? Is the word "really" a subconscious slip? If she is definitive in her statement, I wouldn't expect to see a hedge word such as "really".

  16. What are the odds that no one from Noura's own family supported her in the trial, if she was innocent?

  17. Noura's uncle testified that Noura seemed unusually interested in what she might inherit if Jennifer died. What are the odds that this would happen within a week of Jennifer's death?

  18. Noura says her uncle is a liar. Noura says, "That's really hard to do, because, um...I love him." It appears to me she is thinking on her feet here. What are the odds that her own uncle would lie about this? She points the finger at everyone else, but herself.

  19. Noura's friend testified that she heard Noura say to her mom the night she was murdered, "My mom's a bitch and she needs to go to hell." Her friends didn't support her either. What are the odds?

  20. Noura says she didn't get home until 5:00 a.m., but phone records show otherwise. What are the odds that a 17 year old girl would get home at 5:00 a.m. on the night her mom was murdered? How many 17 year old girls stay out until 5:00 a.m.?

Noura supporters argue that whoever killed her father may have killed her mother. I don't think the two killings shared any similarities, did they? Second, why would a stranger who wanted revenge on Noura's dad do an "overkill" stabbing on Jennifer? I could see shooting her, but stabbing her dozens of times? Why? A stranger who just wanted money from Jennifer wouldn't put a basket over Jennifer's head. That doesn't make sense. Furthermore, some speculated that since Jennifer inherited her ex-husband's estate that perhaps his killers wanted money from Jennifer. If this is true, they would have taken things, but from what we know nothing was taken. They would have had nothing to gain by killing Jennifer, so I think those scenarios are unlikely.

I think this case comes down to the basics. When things seems to be unlikely to be true, they probably are. Noura wants us to believe in unrealistic odds here, and offers no good explanation for any of it. She just wants us to believe she is honest and the rest of the world is lying. I'm not buying it. This is classic behavior of a sociopath, though I am not saying Noura is one (I'm not a medical expert). If you notice though, Noura has very little emotions and never says anything loving about her mother whatsoever. She actually complains that her mother embarrassed her, when she talks about the "bond" between them. It's kind of ironic.

Do I believe Noura killed her mom? I do not know, but I think Noura knows a heck of a lot more than she is telling us. I also wonder if someone else could have been involved. I'd really like to see that hair tested. There are still plenty of questions in this case that need answers, to say the least.

 Update on Search for Haleigh
  by Eyes at 6:20 PM

A blog writer at the Orlando Sentinel wrote the following on this blog:
“Sources close to the investigation tell me that they have a person in custody,” WOFL’s Kelly Joyce said from Putnam County. “That person told them that they could find Haleigh’s body at the bottom of the St. Johns River here today, and I’m told they found something, but the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office isn’t saying what they found.”
Of course, this is one person talking to another, so take it with a grain of salt, but I thought I'd share it.

Breaking News: Search for Haleigh Ongoing
  by Eyes at 12:17 PM

Investigators in the Haleigh Cummings case have received a tip from inside the jail, and are searching the area near where Ronald Cummings lived when Haleigh disappeared at this moment. They've also set up a mobile command center, so it looks like they got a big tip.

News4Jax.com is reporting the following (see their video here):
Channel 4's Tarik Minor said the search of an area less than 5 miles south of where Haleigh disappeared in February 2008 was prompted by a "credible tip."
...

Minor called the search effort "massive," and included deputies from Putnam, Clay and Marion counties, as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. He said cadaver dogs were also brought to the scene.
In the FirstCoastNews article, they write something I have never seen before: "After extensive interviews with many people involved in Haleigh's life, detectives have said Croslin knows more than she's saying, but is not a suspect. Has anyone seen that before? Is this a new change in status due to information?

I will post more information as it becomes available. If you have breaking news, please email me!

Thanks, Karon, for the breaking news tip!

Husband's Plea: Actions Caught on Video
  by Eyes at 12:21 PM

Last week, I shared with you the video plea of Munawar Toha, pleading for his wife, who disappeared in March. When I posted this case, the police had already arrested Toha, but I thought you would find it interesting nonetheless.

I, like everyone else, only saw the video after the arrest, so I don't have any good insight of how I would have felt prior to knowing. I don't think I saw enough in this video for me to say anything conclusive.

I do believe that Toha shows genuine grief, but people who do crazy things, do often have genuine emotions and do so episodes of grief, pain, shame, etc. That would not be surprising nor does it give us any answers as it could support the truth or a lie. I do see a hint of disgust when he says, "I have no clue where she is at the moment." The words "at the moment" are odd, but not significant on their own either. He does seem to be able to turn off his emotions quite well, but because he does show genuine emotions albeit in small bursts,it isn't enough to say anything conclusively. For me to say anything about this case, I would have needed to see more.

Here is an update:

Coralrose Fullwood: The Truth is Never Easy
  by Eyes at 9:45 AM

This week, Patrick Murphy, who was charged with the murder of Coralrose Fullwood, plead guilty. News reports are saying he is admitting to killing Coralrose. So does this mean the case is closed?

Back in 2007, I watched several videos of Dale Fullwood (which are no longer online unfortunately) and I stated that I did not trust him. Dale Fullwood's daughter, Coralrose, was murdered and her body was found within hours a few blocks away at a construction site by a dog walker. Dale has always told people that he came home from the bar he worked at, saw Coralrose sleeping and went to bed. By the time they awoke the next morning, she was missing. Dale told reporters that he believed she was abducted from his home as he and his family of six slept.

Read moreWhen Murphy was arrested in August 2008 due to DNA, people were convinced I had this case wrong, yet thankfully the police kept an open-mind. It turns out they had or got more information than we did at the time.

An informant in this case has told police that Coralrose's rape and death was videotaped. See this article from the Herald-Tribune:
The night she was abducted and killed, 6-year-old Coralrose Fullwood was taken to a home along with other children to perform sex acts for a video, according to court records obtained by the Herald-Tribune.
Furthermore, they report:

According to the records released this week (June 2009), Coralrose was taken to the home of the man charged with murdering her, Patrick Dewayne Murphy, who lived two miles away from the Fullwood home.

Several adults were at the home, as well as Coralrose, three young girls and a boy, the records say, and one of the men offered the children $10 to have sex with each other while he filmed them.

And last:
He [Dale Fullwood] has told police he had no part in his daughter's death, a crime that police say was not random.
Sadly, the truth is never easy, and that is why I am writing this post. It is not black and white. We want to believe that when we have a suspect, especially with DNA, that the case is cut and dry. It's over. Person A is guilty and so then Person B must be honest.

Deception isn't as simple as he did it or he didn't. Deception can run deep and in many directions, and is often harder to solve than murder. It doesn't leave behind DNA, but as we get closer to the truth, a picture begins to fuzz before us, and until that picture is clear, we must never give up in search of the truth.

We do not know how Coralrose was identified to be one of the children to participate in the child pornography "gathering" that night. Can we rule Dale out as having no knowledge considering all the facts in this case? To do so would mean you believe that Patrick Murphy abducted Coralrose between 2:00- 7:00 a.m. from a house full of six people without being discovered--for the purpose of bringing her to the pornography "gathering". That seems remote to me. I don't doubt at all that Murphy may be the one that ultimately killed Coralrose, but does that leave Dale free and clear, and most importantly honest?

Police have clearly identified that Patrick Murphy and Dale Fullwood had a connection. Witnesses reported seeing them look at pornography on Dale Fullwood's computer where he worked. Dale Fullwood was also found to have child pornography on his computer which he was charged and sentenced to serve time.

The biggest problem one must live with when finding the truth is being willing to live in a state of ambiguity. Ambiguity make us uncomfortable. When people find things that make them uncomfortable, they want them to go away--they want easy answers. That's not how we find the truth.

In cases with complexity, it may take years and even decades until the truth reveals itself. In some cases, we know the truth may never reveal itself. But through it all, if we want the truth, we must be willing to live with ambiguity and accept it, until the full picture of the truth reveals itself, otherwise we will just live with another deception.

 Husband Pleas for Wife
  by Eyes at 9:28 AM

Here is the plea of a man whose wife went missing in late March. She was found this week when police pulled up her car from a lake. While the story is now solved, what do you see when you look at this man?

*Thanks to the two people who sent me this story.

Sleep Deprived? How It Affects Reading Emotions
  by Eyes at 12:10 PM

Tired Telecommuter

New research has come out from the University of California at Berkeley that says if you are tried, your ability to distinguish between happy and angry facial expressions of moderate intensity drops significantly. Sleep deprived people rated these faces as less angry and less happy than they did when they got enough sleep.

If you have an important meeting or interview, and you want to be able to understand those around you, I have advice for you: Make sure you get a good night's sleep! Ironically, I require a lot of sleep and make it a point to get it every day!

You can read a summary of the research here, here and here.

 Janet Jackson on Oprah
  by Eyes at 9:39 AM

Last Friday, Oprah interviewed Janet Jackson about the death of her iconic brother Michael. It was an interesting video because Janet was very open and honest. She admitted that the family knew that Michael had problems and that they did several interventions to try to help him, but they failed. She even said that when she got the news of what happened to Michael, she wasn't surprised by what happened. The family had feared for Michael's safety for a while.

It was refreshing to see such candor and honesty.

Drunk Driver Calls 911: Admits It
  by Eyes at 10:24 AM

Here is a fascinating 911 call I saw at Crimesider.com.

People do strange things. What do you think motivated this phone call? All people do things for a reason. What reason do you think she had? I wonder if she regretted it in the morning, when she sobered up!
