 My Thoughts: Annette Skyes
  by Eyes at 10:09 AM

It has been interesting to watch public opinion on Annette Sykes sway. Early on more people believed Sykes than did not, but in the last day or so, the pendulum swayed to disbelief (see original post and poll here). What makes deception so difficult is there is no sure clue to deceit.

In the beginning of the interview, Sykes is visibly annoyed that reporters for a variety of reasons. Some of you believe that she is deflecting instead of answering the question, but I disagree. Sykes was annoyed that people had to ask her how she was feeling. To her, it is obvious that a parent or grandparent would be miserable when their child is missing, so asking the question seems ridiculous to her. It annoys her, which is logical. So instead of answering the question, she asks the reporter to think how he would feel. It's logical, normal and nothing unusual.

Read moreI do not see any micro expressions of happiness as some of you thought you saw at time marker 1:25.

I also don't think you can judge someone from a lack of tears. Its much more important to focus on the emotions expressed. Are they genuine? Are they sincere? Are they consistent with the situation? Do they make sense for the situation the person is in? With Sykes, the answer for me was yes for all of those questions. She does break down at one point and it is absolutely genuine. It's not inconsistent at all.

Some of you felt when Sykes closed her eyes and blinked at key times that this was an indication of deception. For me, these are never clues to deception because honest people do them just as frequently as deceptive people do. The most important thing any detective can do is look for inconsistencies. Looking and focusing on behavioral ticks will almost always give you a false reading.

While Sykes is annoyed and perhaps angry at the questions asked of her, there is a calm about her that is undeniable, that I would not expect to see if she was being deceptive. She answers questions effortlessly and without thought. Her words flow. She does not show any indications that she is thinking on her feet.

When Sykes is asked if Misty was gone that night and she replies, "That's a crock!" Sykes has a lot of emotions. She is mad and isn't shy about showing it. Often times liars will attempt to hide their emotions to cover their lies. Sykes is very comfortable letting out her genuine anger here, and if she feels that Misty is being unfairly picked on she should feel anger. This, again, is normal.

With Sykes statement, all we can conclude is that she likely did see Misty and Haleigh at 7:00 PM, but that is all we can gather from it.

To me, Sykes is believable and honest here. I do not see one hot spot or indication that Sykes is being deceptive.

 Why Women Lie

 Chris Brown's Mixed Messages
  by Eyes at 12:41 PM

I think one thing is clear about Chris Brown's "apology": He is sending mixed messages. Brown starts out by saying, "I want to express my deepest regret and accept full responsibility." He continues a few seconds later by saying, "I felt it was important that you heard directly from me that I am sorry."

Chris Brown out and about in Beverly Hills, Ca

Read moreWhen he speaks during the scripted video, his facial expressions seem to support and emphasize what he is saying, which is indicative he is sorry. I've seen many scripted videos where people can't pull off what they are saying regardless of a rehearsed script, but here Chris does. However, I am left with one big question. Who is Chris Brown apologizing to, and why?

To me, it seems like he is apologizing to us, his fans, but not to Rihanna, the woman he plead guilty to assaulting, only after he was given a plea deal. Brown says in the interview, "I've told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you that I am sorry." The way Brown emphasizes the word "told" indicates he is frustrated that he hasn't been forgiven by either Rihanna or the public (to which I don't know). Frustration over not being forgiven is not a good sign.

Nowhere in the video does Brown address Rihanna publicly, which really makes his apology fall short, in my opinion. He may be genuinely sorry he kicked his career to the gutter because of his hot temper, but does this mean he really is sorry to the person he assaulted?

I personally don't think so, or he would have addressed Rihanna herself.

 ABC: Dating In the Dark
  by Eyes at 9:56 AM

Have you seen the new show on ABC this summer called Dating In the Dark? It's a must see for all of you people who love reading people! You get lots of opportunities to test your abilities.

Three men and three women are put in a dark room together and are then setup on "blind dates" with one of the participants who is supposed to be their ultimate match, though they have opportunities to pick another partner from the group, if they choose.

Read moreIt's fascinating because they don't ever get to see each other, but you can see them through the use of an infrared camera. When the lights are out, it becomes clear people are much more genuine--I suspect because of the sense of vulnerability they share being blinded. They are much more expressive and less inhibited, and their body language is entirely different at times!

Plus, at the end of the show, while the couples are still in the darkroom, each person is revealed to the other via a spotlight. What this does is put one person on display while still hiding the other. With that, you can get to see each person react to the other in a genuine way, because they are still hidden in the dark as they get to see their partner visually for the first time. You can then see if you can read their body language and facial expressions! It's LOTS of fun!

I'll be tuning in again. Will you?

Joe Jackson on Larry King Live
  by Eyes at 11:11 AM

2009 BET Awards - Press Room

Joe Jackson was on Larry King Live last night saying that he never abused Michael. Did you see it?

When Larry King asks Joe about whether or not he was abusive to Michael, Joe answers, “I never been abusive to him”. You need to take a closer look at the words being spoken here. Joe Jackson clearly skirts the issues by playing with words, if you want my opinion.

Notice how convoluted Joe’s answer is? He talks about slavery and torture, and then ends up saying a lot of people spank their kids and don’t admit it. Why doesn’t he answer the questions directly? Then Joe ends his somewhat non-nonsensical answer by saying he’s “never beaten at all”. I think the key word here is “beaten”. It’s all semantics, if you want my opinion.

A man who abused his children and who is denial about it is likely to diminish his actions, and I believe that is what Joe Jackson is doing here. Notice how he doesn’t deny “spanking” Michael? And how he justifies everyone else must be doing it?

When I’ve seen Michael Jackson talk of how afraid he was of his father, I absolutely believed him.

 Poll: Discovery ID

I was wondering how many people have access to the paid cable channel "Discovery ID"? It's not Discovery, like on the basic cable channel, it's a tier up in subscriptions (usually). The channel is mainly about crime and criminals from what I can see.

If you are unsure, here is their YouTube Channel, which has previews to their shows.

If you have it, do you think it would be a good source of material for this blog?

 Jeffrey Marsalis
  by Eyes at 9:23 AM

A reader asked me for my opinion about Jeffrey Marsalis, who was featured this week on Primetime.
I've been following this story about Jeffrey J. Marsalis, who is known as the "worst date rapist" ever in this country. Watching the case, I was curious what you would make of him. Watching his case, I saw (what I thought were) lies on both the sides, his accusers and he himself. A link to a video of him speaking can be found here: http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=8069223&page=1
Read moreWhen I watched Marsalis speak, I see an arrogance and superiority complex that makes absolutely no sense, considering he has been accused of rape multiple times. If you are innocent and your name is being destroyed, you get angry and upset. You feel violated, and while Marsalis feigns anger, he does a horrible job of it. He is a horrible liar, if you want my opinion. He gives many clues to his deceit from thinking on his feet to inappropriate emotions and facial expressions to unusual tone of voice when he talks. I am happy to see that he has been locked up! I didn't trust one word out of his mouth. He thinks he is smarter than everyone else, but thankfully, he has learned this is not so.

As for the women who accused him, I believe they are being genuine and honest. I did not detect deceit in the interviews that I saw during the Primetime show. These women were truly victims, and I do not believe for an instant any of them were making up the accusations
that they were raped (as Marsalis suggested). Marsalis was a master at his craft and could fool many people. Worse, he chose victims, if you want my opinion, who were more trusting than the average person. He had a keen eye for picking out best targets for his crimes.

Marsalis Match.com Profile:

"I have to say that I am highly driven, and I am looking for that special someone that has the same qualities. ... I am also looking for a woman to be a leader and take the initiative and make things happen for herself, and not blaming others for incidentals that might happen along the way during the pathway of life. ... If you want to be my copilot on the magic carpet ride it's carry on only, that means no stop signs, no stop lights, and throttle up."

Chilling!

Chilling Text Messages from Debbie Rowe
  by Eyes at 11:01 AM

According to Fox news, Debbie Rowe wrote the following text messages to a close friend:

"My lawyer is telling me I have to take some responsibility about the welfare of the children," Rowe wrote in a July 5 email to White. "Do I want the kids? Hell no. Does it look good for me to ask for them? Absolutely. I don't want to look like the woman who gave away her kids and just forgot about them." Read more here

While we know people lie, cheat and say whatever they think they have to publicly, even when they don't believe it, isn't it hard to believe when you see it for real--like this above?

Debbie Rowe is one cold, calculating and callous woman, and a woman who I would not trust in any circumstance. The only priority in Debbie's life, in my opinion, is Debbie.

"To The Best of My Knowledge..."
  by Eyes at 10:20 AM

Dr Arnold Klein talks to Press

Dr Arnold Klein, Michael Jackson's dermatologist, was interviewed by Diane Sawyer last week and was asked if he was the father of Michael Jackson's children. His response is certainly eyebrow-lifting when he said, “All I can tell you is to the best of my knowledge, I am not the father of these children."

What? Does he have a habit of depositing sperm in strange places? Is he suggesting to us that perhaps he over-indulges in drinks/drugs and can't recollect this stuff??

Give me a break!

Dr. Klein goes on to say, “Push comes to shove...uh...I can’t say anything about it, but to the best of my knowledge I’m not the father of these children, okay?... I can’t answer it in any other way because you know what? I don’t want to feed any of this insanity that’s going around…"

Isn't he doing just that--feeding the rumor mill? Clearly, Dr. Klein knows where he left his sperm and if the children of Michael Jackson are potentially his biological children or not.

Why isn't he leveling with us? Is he afraid of being scrutinized like Debbie Rowe?

 Photos Can Be Misleading
  by Eyes at 1:20 PM

Many of you have asked me to comment on photographs over the years and I have a policy of not doing so because freeze-framing milli-seconds can make things appear as they aren't. They can be inaccurate and misleading. With the Obama photo below, it was harmless so I gave in, but this is why I normally never comment on emotions or reactions in photos:

 Obama in Italty Photo Interpretation
  by Eyes at 9:56 AM

(Photo cut from AP)

What is interesting about this expression of Obama is that I don't believe there is one universal meaning for it. It's a forced expression. It could represent several things.

I could see the following being applicable to this photo with Obama thinking any of the following:
  • "What do you think of this?"
  • "Check it out, pretty cool, eh?"
  • "Not bad"
  • "Not bad. I like it!"
  • "Wow. That's pretty awesome."
  • "Cool."
I don't think there is one right answer here.

I think for me, I would interpret the photo to mean, "Not bad. I like it!". I see positive emotions and not negative emotions. As some of you pointed out in the comment section in the previous post, if there was disapproval, I suspect the eyebrows would be lowered, or perhaps there would be wrinkles on the forehead (more pronounced).

*Please note, I have not studied facial expressions. For me, I have an intuitive sense of understanding and I am not always good at breaking down the details as to why I feel what I feel.

 Michael Jackson: Unseen Video
  by Eyes at 12:26 PM

Many people now that Michael Jackson has died are wondering if Jackson was honest when he was alive and perhaps, even taken advantage of because he was uber-rich. Several readers have written to me since his death wondering if Jackson was honest when he spoke out about the child molestation accusations in the recently released video deposition of Jackson (below).

Read moreWhen I watch Jackson speak, his soft-sweet demeanor immediately puts me on alert. When people act like this, it is usually an indication they are putting on a facade.

When this video above first starts, the interviewer asks Jackson, "Where you aware that Jordan Chandler or his family on his behalf filed a litigation, a lawsuit against you?" Watch how Michael Jackson reacts just before he says "yes". He appears to be in a movable chair that flexes, and when Michael Jackson thinks about it, he rocks backwards. Why is Michael Jackson moving away when they ask this? He becomes almost timid.

If you had nothing to do with a false lawsuit, would it make you want to shrink away or be timid?

Next the interviewer says, "To your knowledge, Mr. Jackson, um, were you ever accused of having sexually molested Brett Barnes?" When you watch Jackson here, he acts totally surprised, but it is an act, if you want my opinion. If this was the first time Michael heard this and it was a false allegation, he should be showing anger or bewilderment, if he was innocent, but he doesn't. He should show some--any --adverse reaction other than surprise, but he doesn't. Instead, he smiles. He tries to laugh it off. He feigns surprise. That's a big red flag that makes absolutely no sense! It's a big tip-off something isn't right here.

Watch how giddy Jackson gets when he is asked if he ever sexually molested Macaulay Culkin? Would you feel like this if you were truly repulsed by the these thoughts? If you were wrongly accused? If you were being fingered as a child molester when you weren't??? Would you be laughing about it?

Look at time marker 1:10-1:11. Here Jackson lets out his real emotions. Notice his smile dissipates? That is the real Jackson for an instant, before he reverts back to his false smile. Then he shakes his head no over and over again. Some people may think this is a sign he is honest. However, others may argue that Jackson is mad that he is being called out on his behavior and can't believe it (denial). Either is a potential here, though I tend toward the latter.

When Michael Jackson talks about crazy stories people have created abaout him, notice how happy-go lucky he acts again? Yet, in a strange twist, isn't he supposedly angry because people believe all these lies? It sure makes you wonder why Jackson can't be his authentic self, doesn't it?

Michael Jackson talks that he didn't get his skin bleached. Yet if you look up the skin condition, Vitiligo, you see that no one is as white as Jackson became. They aren't flawlessly white. They had patches of skin that faded, but normal color, too. Logic tells us that Jackson, if he did have the disease, did something to make all his skin uniform, so why doesn't he just admit to that?

The same goes for Jackson when he says he didn't have plastic surgery (in other videos). It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see this is untrue. Simple logic is all one needs to identify the truth.

At the end of the video, Jackson says, "Jesus said to love the children and be like children. Be youthful and be innocent and be pure and honorable," Jackson said. "He was talking to his apostles. And they were fighting over who was the greatest among themselves, and he said, 'Whoever humbles yourself like this child is the greatest among me.' And he always surrounded himself with children, and that's how I was raised, to be like that and to imitate that. I don't know what you're trying to make out of this."

When Jackson finishes this statement, do you see his smirky smile? Does his statement make any sense? Is that a good defense of the accusations? Jackson tells us he doesn't know what they are trying to make out of this. Give me a break!

Jackson, if you want my opinion, lived in a world of make-believe. Perhaps it was due to his abusive father and a method of escape for him. Perhaps it came from his incredible wealth. With his money, he could surround himself with only people who supported his beliefs, no matter how off the charts they became. Perhaps it is because he has a demon inside that adored children at levels that are abnormal and unhealthy, and dangerous.

Anytime people do not express sincere and genuine emotion, anytime people smile when they should be angry or mad, or anytime people talk in a sweet demure manner over serious topics, take what they say with a grain of salt!

Now with that being said, I must say Michael Jackson did have a profound effect on music, and he should be remembered for his good contributions to the world, too.

The Bachlorette: Is Wes Hayden a Sociopath?
  by Eyes at 9:17 AM

If you watched the Bachelorette this season, you got to see a cold and calculating liar working his craft. Wes was chilling, because we got to see him woo Jillian, and we got to see Jillian fall for him as he used her to accomplish his mission. He wanted to make a splash on TV and get his band on the airwaves, and he succeeded.

Wes has a grandiose sense of self, he is shameless, remorseless, and unable to form true attachments to people, yet it took Jillian almost the whole series to figure it out (though it was plain as day from the very beginning of the show, if you want my opinion).

You can watch Wes in action if you want: ABC has posted the previous shows online. How long does it take you spot that this man was anything but sincere?

Wes gives me the creeps, personally. He demonstrates many traits of a sociopath (psychopath), though I am not a professional nor can I claim he is one. But if Wes were in my world, I would steer clear of him at any and all costs. He is truly not governed by caring, compassion and normal emotions, which keep the rest of us in check from using and destroying the lives of other people.
